The 4.8 updates are coming at a slower rate than 4. & 4.7. Is that a good sign for the state 4.8 is in? And is there an ETA on when the first 4.9 preview build will begin, as that’s got some important fixes in it for me.

It’s a good sign. In an ideal world, we wouldn’t need to release any Hotfixes, because each release would have no major issues. 4.8.0 was definitely a more stable release than 4.7.0 was, and so we have far less hotfixes for it. This allows us to focus more heavily on development and testing for the next major release.
The first 4.9 Preview is expected to roll out within the next few weeks. As always, please make sure that you are not converting your projects to the preview releases for actual development. If you wish to test your project on a Preview, only ever do it with a copy.

Bah. I just converted my project to 4.9 from github :D. So far so good (;.
@anonymous_user_1da90bc6,
Do you know if there is any hotfixes planned for the UBT issue (the part of the code that was in 4.7 but not added to 4.8 that avoid UHT to run if no header changed) that slow all c++ compilation time ?
It’s really painfull to wait for twice the time when doing small changes.

Imposible to use 4.8, 4.8.1, and 4.8.2 with vr projects. Staying in 4.76 until a new STABLE and fixed version of the Engine comes out.

Sorry for the difficulties with the Launcher. We’ll be able to help you best if you post this issue to the Installation & Setup section of the AnswerHub. (click the link in my signature to make a post).
We’ll want to review your Launcher logs, so be sure to attach them to the AnswerHub post. The information on how to gather them is here: #None_of_the_Above_Helped_-_Getting_Debug_Logs
so i guess i should wait for 4.9 for my first download… win10 comes next week or so, so i can install an operating system on my new quad core… i have a 12gb ceiling on downloads, so it has to install the first time or i have to wait a month to try again… my games will be simple and never be released, but if i don’t have something to keep my busy, at my age, don’t use it you loose it… so keep up the good work and make it and the downloader stable and i’ll be happy… remember i haven’t seen UE since UDK3 so i should have many years of learning ahead :)…
Since few weeks, I have a cook issue : when I make a cook, the global game seems overexposed, like the global lighting blows up, and it’s very different from the edditor/stand alone viewport.
What I have in editor :
The documentation is not referring to the UE4 editor preferences, but is actually referring to your Mac’s system preferences. I realize the documentation isn’t very clear about that, and I have made a note for us to fix that.
The 4.8.3 Hotfix is now live! It contains fixes for 3 crashes and an issue with shipped builds.
If you experience a bug with the 4.8.3 Hotfix, please remember to
Fixed in 4.8.3
UE-18668 Crash when closing projects
UE-17342 Crash when exiting PIE after server travel
UE-18530 Assert in ConformComponentsUtils::FindeNativeArchetype
UE-19151 Parallel Rendering is disabled in Shipping builds.
Was this issue fixed in 4.8.3 or will it come in 4.8.4?

Hey guys,
I’ve discovered that some changes which were in 4.7 did not get integrated back into our branch, which meant that they were effectively missing from the 4.8 release. I’ve checked them in here. Some changes have been made since then, but I think they should be easily merged.
I know it’s no real virus, just avast having fun deleting files, but it’s a problem since it most likely deleted the file and I probably have to verify the the whole engine now because of a missing file

What’s this? I googled a bit and found a mention of parallel rendering effects (but found no more info than that phrase itself) and I am greatly interested.
