Ok, so with a bit further investigation into the root motion problem I had with my enemies, it seems that it does in fact work but what caused it not to work is the way Montage now blends with base animation. The blend seems t happen much quicker than anticipated, like, there’s a lot of the animation that doesn’t even play because Montage already blended back to the base animation. So with a direct comparison to my old version 4.4 of the game, the hit reactions are much “bigger” and looks as expected from the animation, but in 4.5 the hit reaction is much less, it’s as if the animation start blending back much sooner.

So because of , it seemed like root motion did not work, but in fact, it does work if I change to blend much less. So, of course the blend there looks bad, it’s completely different from before, but at least root motion does in fact work, it just didn’t even get a to do anything, because the blend was so abrupt.

So, my guess is that there’s either a problem with Montage blending, or something changed there that makes it do blending different that I have to take into account. I just don’t know what, because it’s not “as expected”. The blend is off somehow.

I’m sorry for spamming the thread, but I have done just a bit more testing and I realized something that may be the cause of all my headaches with the root motion.

It seems that with root motion it only applies it when the animation is at 100% weight. Is true?.

So, with my hit reactions what I do is I blend into it over 0 sec but I blend out of it over the length of the animation. makes it transition very smoothly overall out of the immediate impact. When I blend say, for half the time or a quarter of the time, root motion actually work for that time period in the beginning where no blend happens and then in stead of blending back out, it abruptly stops as soon as the blend out starts to happen. So the animation itself blends but the motion associated with it does not, which looks really bad.

I am pretty sure is what’s going on and is why overall my hit reactions looks much worse now compared to 4.4. I can understand doing with root motion but I would prefer is a setting rather than forced in there. It’s one of those things that you may or may not want, just like before where you may or may not want root motion for 100% of the time, including the blend back.

I am seeing some crashes to desktop when trying to set the light map index to 1 and clicking apply. However, it is a rather huge model.

Thanks for reporting . I had stumbled across one while looking into another with Auto-generated lightmaps yesterday. I’ve already submitted the bug for crash with TTP: 348930.

4.5 is in final testing right now! We just had an RC0 build today. It won’t be much longer. Thank you to who has jumped on the “Preview” build and contributed feedback so far.

Thanks for the update.

Have you been able to look at theAZERTY Keyboard so far?
It’s really annoying to not being able to map correctly the key when testing our game.

As a side effect, It’s also prevents from testing the new UT properly.

Twitch Holy ****** of eye candy. I can not wait for 4.5 to come out so I can update from 4.4.3 it will freaking suit our game so well. Blinks I don’t think anyone in my team that saw the post about the preview version alone were basically like “O_O HOLY **** GIMME GIMME” lol.

Yeah, cannot wait to upgrade to 4.5 either. But of course, Epic shall take their time until its fully stable and ready for projects :slight_smile:

I would be interested to see the list of changes/fixes between the preview version and actual release as a separate list. Would that be possible?

Has anybody managed to build a mobile project with a landscape without freezing the device on launch?
I just added a tiny landscape to the sample map, didn’t apply any material to it. The build was successful, no errors. But when I start the apk on my tablet, it stays black for ~30 seconds and says that it doesn’t react anymore, then I close it. The same project was working flawlessly on 4.4.3.

I could really use that 4.5 new video textures right now, i have a finished project that i just need to embed a video in the middle of it :expressionless:

CTD when removing trees has reared again in 4.5.
