Unreal Engine 4.25 Preview

Thanks for your hard work, Epic!!

I’ve noticed something different about the version you download from the epic launcher when compared to 4.24. After switching the project version from 4.24 -> 4.25.0, and right clicking the .uproject file to generate a new visual studio project.

When I open this visual studio project and do a Build -> Build solution everything is fine

But if I do a clean build -> clean solution (or possibly a build -> rebuild solution) a bunch of .target files in the Win64 directory get deleted and it fails with this error.

Maybe they always used to get deleted but for some reason they aren’t being rebuilt.

You can easily bring the files back by selecting verify in the epic launcher and re-downloading them

Before a build clean the 'D:\Program Files\Epic Games\UE_4.25\Engine\Binaries\Win64 contains 893 items after a build clean 876 items

Howcome there is still no option to read shapefiles or osm files ?

For some reason Unreal Insights does not work at all for me with a source build of 4.25 preview. Live sessions are not showing up and the trace is cut off after 10 seconds. Submitted a bug, hopefully it can be fixed since this is rather important to work…

It was compiled from source and not working properly on 4.24.3, as many users reported and Victor confirmed. You may feel free to take your Ritalin now.

This is 4.25 release forum NOT 4.24… LOL 4.24 didn’t even have chaos mentioned in release notes. … victor confirms chaos won’t be in 4.25 either unless compiled from source. go take my what? get lost kid.

This is incorrect. Chaos will work if you download and compile 4.25 Preview 1 from GitHub as per:

Victor not true. I tried the compile it does not work.

Just some quick House Keeping:

  1. I got “BSV03” error for corrupt installation, but I saw my AntiVirus was blocking installation files during Clean-Up phase.
    I disabled my AV and let it process through, to a point where the installation asked permission if I would allow Windows to install 4.25.
    Before disabling my AV, I didn’t get this, so AV must have kept blocking these necessary files, as then when AV was disabled it properly installed all the way.

  2. I got error regarding missing “vcruntime140_1 dll”. But when I searched for it, I saw it in the folders in UE 425.
    It was only when looking online I learned I needed it on my PC, it is itself a little program of Windows.
    But the Windows error makes it look like the 425 program is missing it, you know? But the install had the dll, it just couldn’t speak to my PC’s dll.
    So - You need to download a program from MSoft called “VC_redist.x64.exe”
    It is 2015-2019 C++ Redistributable update that I didn’t have apparently.
    So I installed, it asked to restart, I restarted, and everything looks good. (Even my GPU rig still showed all of my external rendering GPUs, because restarting from an update some times mucks up device manager, but this did not happen here.)

Anyway, now 425 loaded. Fantastic.

So I open a 424 scene and boom, Crash…
but what’ya gonna do, right? Its a Preview…

Did you get 4.25P1 to compile?

it’s working for me. try redownloading source again. last time i downloaded it was 4gig. now its 6.8gig

#1 Rule, make a copy of your project and only convert the copy.
DONT convert in place.

Steps I took to get everything working properly and loading projects is below. please read ALL if you wish to use 4.25 for testing. these steps will help remove 90% of the frustration so DO them, and if you have any other issues look in your crash log AFTER it loads error text in the window.

TO ANYONE DOING VR If you have a stereo layer in your vr pawn REMOVE IT prior to 4.25.0 this component seems to have been changed and will crash your project upon building.

Also to anyone having a crash from conversion IF you have key bindings that are NOT in your project settings>input I suggest making these into inputs before conversion as this too WILL crash your project because they were removed and will result in unknown class and crashing.

ALSO anyone that is using c++ make sure you convert your uPROPERTYs to the new Fproperty or it will crash on compile.

AND DON’T I REPEAT DON’T USE CLEAN SOLUTION>REBUILD… ONLY USE BUILD…

ALSO Make sure that you fix up any REDIRECTORS BEFORE CONVERSION If you have NOT it will CRASH fixing these issues I can confirm my projects are loading and compiling perfect.

IF chaos was not working for you, redownload source, recompile, make sure you setup your SETTINGS TO ENABLE CHAOS IN YOUR INI FILES BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO OPEN A PROJECT…

Side note about stereo layers, they have changed a bit so they are not going to convert. delete them and re add them once converted.

NEW ISSUE: Don’t turn on the Voice chat plugin, it is missing and wont allow you to open your project.

Is there a way to go back to the original mesh paint mode layout? The new UI is less than ideal, the original was cleaner and less intrusive on the viewport and its much harder to work with having so many settings stretched out across so much surface area.

Chaos is exactly why I came to read the patch notes. Been bragging about this to lots of people and am super excited about using it. I don’t want work around or hacky methods for physics destruction. Super looking forward to it since the show at GDC 2019.

Hi everyone,

I was testing the new HISM custom data functionality (which is really amazing). However, it currently only works in the vertex shader.
Are there any plans to make that data/node available in the general pixel shader to influence color values?
If not, does anyone have an idea on how to pass those values further up the pipeline to access at least the instance ID in the regular material/pixel shader?
