The new templates aren’t in the preview version
I can’t wait for the cave.
Okay, the preview version doesn’t work at all for me. I read about performance boosts so I tried it out, but …
It’s exceptionally slower than the 4.0.2 version. It takes about 1-2 seconds for the project select screen to react to my mouse movement. When loading the blueprint examples project in 4.0.2 I get around 8-10 fps (all settings to Epic obviously) in 4.1 it shows a fantastic 0.00 fps. It takes 30 seconds for a menu to respond to my mouse movement, interacting with the viewport is impossible.
Something obviously went wrong , what’s the problem?
Note: I have already tried the first things one would think of, restated my computer, compiled it again etc, no change.
It´s still a preview version.
I try it to with no difference to 4.0.2
Sorry about that Zeblote. They were actually filtered out from the release accidentally! Don’t worry though! We’ll be updating the preview build snapshot again very soon.

Do you have any idea why the preview build is running exceptionally slow for me?
Great job~
Our QA teams are still testing the 4.1 version, but we don’t anticipate any performance loss in the new release. To take a wild guess, you may be experiencing hitches caused by out of date Derived Data Cache. This is the cache of compressed textures, audio and meshes that is created on demand by the engine when assets are loaded for the first time since a big engine change. However, these hitches should vanish after the first few runs as your cache should be up to date with fresh data.

One thing I immediately noticed was, that materials compile considerably slower than in 4.02. Anyone else experiencing this?
I’m not talking about hitches. The new version barely runs at all. Even the little project browser window is using 100% CPU, it takes 1-2 seconds for a project to be highlighted when I move the mouse over the icon. When loading a project, it takes forever to build the interface. The fps counter in the viewport shows a flat 0 and a couple billion ms. When I hold down the mouse on a menu for like 30 seconds, it might start to open. After another long time, it has finished aligning the text. I don’t think the cache gets rebuilt every frame, does it? :v I have already restarted the editor many times and also left it alone for a few hours yesterday, no change.
My guess would be that a loop somewhere is getting stuck running forever for some reason, and as my laptop has a dual core with integrated graphics this basically blocks everything else.
Guys , when I first saw this thread I was very happy ,but after 20 minutes I suddenly realised that it was a very good marketing step.Think a bit ,tell everyone that the new content is very close to release when we don’t expect it to come so soon.So many of you guys immidiately write :
and etc. Very smart step EPIC:) .The reality is that we get 4.1 no sooner than 21 of april ,my prediction the date of release is 21! I’ll tell you in release day How did I get it.
So? They deserve the money. For doing what they’ve done and for the price - It’s amazing. Nobody is asking you to fork out if the new update comes next month, but if you want the features, pay the fee. They haven’t even said it’ll be out on the 24th, it should be out earlier, You can download it on Git already.
If it was a Marketing move, who cares? Epic have done the Gamedev world a favor that will change the scene as we know it, and if they’re asking for an extra $19 for an update? They deserve it. Especially with the amount of work going into the update.
Your theory is obvious. You think they release the updates on an exact schedule so those people who pay for one month and then quit don’t get them. That’s a good idea actually
KitatusStudios ,absolutely agree, price is reasonable, but don’t like something like that ,being “forced to stay”.I suggested them millions of times to expand marketplace ,for example I need more good assets to work ,and everyday look at marketplace ,but there are nothing…They should better make a price for the content .Work=Money ,it’s fair.I agree to pay for content ,not for “waiting for content”…
P.s.Yesterday saw that “effects cave” on YOutube has been published about 6 or 7 month ago…,I guess it’s needless to say the date when Elemental demo was shown (about almost 2 years ago)
Guys from EPIC I respect what you do for us ,Engine is amazing ,please just finish your AMAZING idea of marketplace ,it has to be done ,I wanna spend some cash ,can’t sleep…
You do realise that Unreal Engine is a Game Engine, right? It’s the foundation of your projects, In the sense that you won’t be spoonfed forever. You’ll have to create your assets on your own somewhere down the line, right? Even when the Marketplace is Public, 3D models and such, the art styles of the models will still clash, it’s safer to create your own stuff.
Actually I accept the fact that i’m indie dev ,that’s my hobby ,I know that I can’t do everything by myself, and that’s Ok.Creating all assets by myself is too time consuming ,I better pay money to professionals .Sure,I can search for somebody to make assets on other websites but reality is that in marketplace they would be done to suit that engine! Actually I had a bad experience bying assets when the asset that I bought didn’t have “right UVmap” for UDK.So I just wasted my money.
But how many people subscribed on the first day anyway (i did btw), as opposed to the first week say. If it was a completely cynical move a major update would be timed around the one and a half month mark, this would get a larger number of unsubscribers to re-subscribe. People can also just download the latest source just before their subscription ends and get most if not all of the features of coming updates.
I’m an indie developer too, so are a lot of people on . Just because you’re indie, it doesn’t mean you can do less work. How do you think the other indie developers pull it off? A Marketplace model can only get you so far, you can’t just buy your way into a game. You’ll have to either learn how to do it, find a friend that can do it or hire someone to do it / Work with you.
“Too Time Consuming”? Now you see what major games take so long to be released. As I said, the content in the Marketplace will only get you so far. It’ll affect your project if 100 other games have the same main character or the same scenery / weapons. For the time it takes you create your own work / hire someone else, it adds to the integrity of your ideas.
Yes you’re right . Marketplace can be also a good place too see what people are able to do .I mean I see good character model created by somebody ,I would know what he’s able to create .Contact him and ask to do certain model for me.
