So in case someone dont know - the VR editor is depricated and removed from UE5.
From what heard, there’s only going to be the VR preview from now on. So thats that i guess, the VR editor mode is gone, so dont expect any more improvements to it.
Too bad, it was such a cool feature when they first showed it…
That is NOT TRUE, Right on the new top bar is the VR MODE Icon (in addition to the VR Preview in the Build Section) I am glad. I work 6-8 hours a day IN VR. It allows me to dress and detail a level faster and better than i ever could in any other way. (although the fact they didn’t read the above message in 2 months to refute it,. is not promising, they HAVE kind of forgotten about it…) I used to be able to work in VR Mode and go into Oculus Dash and put up a movie in a media player or a Chrome window, PIN it in Dashboard, then go back to VR Mode and work while able to see my movie or tutorial etc. following me around where i placed it,… THAT NO LONGER WORKS!! I can play a normal webpage but when any kind of media is playing te VR Mode crashe and looks all funny, unusable even a little; DID EPIC OR OCULUS DO THIS ON PURPOSE?
Well, you must not work in Unreal engine because I just came out of VR Editor in UE5, other than a few ‘content window’ type features all is there,.
All you have to do to get it to work if you are having a problem, is disable the Open XR plugin and keep Oculus and/or Steam ones active. Opens fine, in fact they finally fixed the Auto VR Mode, mode… (so if you are in VR mode and take off your HMD it goes back to Desktop editor without pushing System/Exit
I am glad to say, YOU ARE WRONG> Try it yourself! VR Editor Mode in UE5 Works fine. I will a video if you need and don’t know how to install it all (Or need more help getting it to work ??)
Any Chance that you could share if this is still working.
IM on the oculus quest 2. and for the life of me i cant get it to work.
The VR Preview is working just fine.
But cant get into the VR editor, the option is just grayed out. atleast not with working controllers. I have been able to Load up the VR editor with steamVR active. But then it shows the Vive controllers not the oculus quest 2 controllers, when this happens the controllers are tracking fine. but non of the buttons work.
Hello @anonymous_user_9bf2968c1 , we should join forces because with Oculus 2 it also doesn’t work on my end, even with the latest release. Can you show me how it looks on your end ? For me it’s a never ending loading window
BTW, do we have anybody from Unreal coming here and checking things out ? Regarding the Quest 2 problem, I submitted a bug report, we will see what happens
Hi! I can enable VREditor in 5.0.1 by editing the Occulus VR settings.
I also build Occulus Unreal 5.0.0 Branch, but as far as I tried, it is not better then the epic release. I would avoid using SteamVR because it messes up the conroller settings-Although it is working. Has anyone tried nanite in VR? is it true that it is only working with lumen?
Have not used it for a while, finally returned back with UE5.
Is it so that we dont have access to windows, tools and modes via radial menu anymore?
Is there any workaround with it?
Where can i find the VREditor logic or bp, etc?
Love this tool, it should last as long as possible and be developed, there is so much in it!
Epic cmon!
SHAME ON YOU EPIC!
In order to cater to the ‘desktop’ gaming crowd you have all but ABANDONED those forward thinking futurists such as myself, wanting to use a great tool in the VR Editor Mode.
I have just installed UE 4.26, 4.25 and 4.24 and tried to use the most basic function (that I know is not working in 4.27 or UE5), that being: ‘UNDO’.
(When you hit your Active Hands Motion Controller Thumbstick left or right it engages Undo and Redo accordingly). Not so anymore!
THE LAST TIME UNDO WORKED IN VR EDITOR is version 4.24 !!!
I have been asked my opinion from my new company as to whether it is worth working n Unreal or should they stick to Unity and because of this I am going to have to recommend UNITY, they have an VR Editor with UNDO working!
Laying out and creating Levels is not only faster in VR it is exponentially faster: offering far greater power and unique tools such as live dynamic gravity allowing placement of numerous objects that fall and lay naturally, something that takes enormous time to do in Desktop mode. It is a great shame that EPIC has allowed this tool to lapse.
All they had to do is maintain base functionailty, we are not even asking for innovation!
This is a 5 minute fix for someone in the know at Epic. If you are unwilling or the knowledge has been lost, then at the very least you should be replying to this dedicated forum and helping your community to fix this oversight.
Yes, which is why I am here. Have you any useful input? Or just here to state the obvious? I am a Character Animator who has worked on film such as Life of Pi… I should not HAVE to be a programmer to have a working tool!
BESIDES: IT WASN’T DEPRECATED WHEN I ASKED ABOUT THIS FOR VERSION 4.25 and 4.26 … AS far back as 2019… Deprecated usually doesn’t mean: CRIPPLED FOR NO REASON… Lots of great tools have been lost to history because the average mind could not fathom how to make use of it. Is that the Tools fault?
Fortunately, VR editor in UNITY certainly isn’t ‘deprecated’!
I am starting to see more companies hiring for Unity than Unreal for the first time in 10 years…
LAUREN RIDGE, WHERE THE HECK ARE YOU? HOW ABOUT SOME PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP HERE??
Also, if it is ‘deprecated’ as you say (something which I have not been able to verify: Then why did they include instruction the newest manual for version 5?
It has not worked since version 4.24, yet they continue to support it with documentation.
At the very least you should be able to see it is a confusing matter at best and a project killer at worst! If everyone was expected to know how to FIX the Software they use for content creation, there would be a lot less interesting content (and there isn’t much that is good as it is)
From the terrible looks of the ‘character animation’ even in NEW VR GAMES like Red Mater 2, I should think you would welcome the thought of Hollywood Character Animators working in Unreal and games in general,…
Like someone mentioned further up the thread, Epic have stated their intent to remove the tool in the UE5 migration documentation.
It would always be good to have clearer confirmation, but it seems pretty clear that Epic isn’t interested on working on it.
It sucks that they aren’t supporting it, hopefully they’ll pick it back up at some point.
Companies removing features from newer versions of tools happens all the time though, and there is not really much that can be done about it. It’s a lot of work to maintain them, and the original people who made them may not always be available to work on it. At least in this case the source code is available, and even if you can’t fix it yourself, there is the possibility of hiring a programmer to do it.
This really sucks, they should have stated clearly that this function was not being maintained. Really too bad, this has huge potential. Think about it Epic, a lot of us and more in the future will have need for it.
