To be more precise, I am using version 4.26.
… yeah… Hear me out.
I dont’ have a lot of hardware requirements to run the newest tech, nor the money to afford it.
I actually had two more issues I did not have enough disk space for installing 5. i literally had to make adjustments for setting up 4 with the platforms and code debugging packs to install.
However, I did actually install and start up 5, and it worked! like literally no issues
except a few …
obviously since I was on outdated hardware it was expected I’d get error messages saying I am missing graphical hardware capable of rendering or working with the new features of the engine ie lumens, nanite, Mega-lights, metahumans, etc.
once I clicked through al the error messages, everything just started working again; opened one of my smaller projects and it started working like nothing was ever broken. pretty cool! sure nanite and lumens aint’ part of the project, but remember the project was made in version 4.26, before 5 and all of the stuff it came with.
so what’s my problem? well, despite the small hiccups, I was able to launch Unreal Engine 5.
How come I can’t launch Unreal Engine 4?!?!?!
even weirder, how am I able to run Unreal Engine 5, when I clearly don’t meet even the minimum hardware requirements!?!?!
The funniest part of all? I am runnign this NOT on Windows 11
NOT on Windows 10…
Yeah I am using Windows 8.1 HOME EDITION!!!
From what you’re reading you must be thinking this shouldn’t be running at all!
Despite this, I still wanted to make a game, because last I checked, Unreal Engine 4 was used to make a lot of good if not better than great games, am I wrong? Yeah Unreal Engine 5 looks good, but as creators, I find it stupid to just dump what we already had working for us, for something new and shiny, just because it is new and shiny, without realizing it can do the same thing. I am pretty sure as good as 5 is, it can still crash. the bugs will be no less frequent.
My whole point was to prove that you don’t need the newest technology or highest in quality hardware to make a game, but this crash I am experiencing is proving me wrong, and proving the industry right, and even worse when the help I seek is not around here of all places from the very team behind it. I know Unreal Engine 5 is literally built on the same technology as unreal engine 4. Obviously there’s difference and it is not the same, but there’s gonna be upgrades within the framework, that make it perform a lot faster, better, or more different, there’s a reason it’s called Unreal Engine 5, and not just Unreal Engine super, really cool, ultra hyper X.
So don’t give me any answers saying 'Just get better, bigger hardware, or just upgrade to 5. blah" or whatever, I am NOT here for that.
Obviously I am behind in the tech world, I don’t consider that a problem because I could just buy new hardware, and the issue would still persist. my main issue, is this has happened before, I’ve managed to get through and it worked without any hiccups. there’s been no problem up to this point.
So with that cleared up, HERE is the main issue:
Why is my Unreal Editor stopping at " initializing at 9%"?
How can I best prevent this
Why is it this happens for Unreal Engine 4, but not when launching Unreal Engine 5?
I am away from my computer, so I won’t be able to access the Callstack for the error log I will come back to bring that info in later, but any question regarding my build I can gladly provide alogn with anymore information.
