Unreal editor constantly freezes

Hi.

I have created some plants in Plant Factory which I Imported into UE 5.3 via the Plant Factory Plugin to enable pivot painter functionality.

However the global foliage actor doesnt effect the wind on the plants. i also want to incorporate the Health and season parameters so Ive made a few tweaks to a copy of the megascans master material and 2 sided leaves function which compile and save ok.

Also changed the RGB pins in the 2 sided function as the packed materials from PF have different textures assigned to the values.

I then saved 2 instances of the master material, 1 for bark and 1 for leaves. i load these as master materials in the material imported via the PF plugin. Seemed to be working ok.

However Ive refined the process and started setting up the master instances from scratch.

While editing the instances I frequently save my progress, and the editor freezes on saving.

Looking at the task manager the cpu usage for UE5 is 0 after freezing, while the GPU usage is generally around 1500 - 2000 MB.

Its not always at the same step in my process when it freezes. sometimes just editing number values, and more frequently when adding the pivot painter textures.

Also it will load in 1 instance and save, then freeze when I try to load it in the next instance.

After closing UE5 from the task manager and relauncing the editor, the materials that caused the freeze are unusable and any attempt to edit them causes freezing again.

I have been copying some settings from the common hazel materials into the master instances, colours, number values etc. the values I put into the new material seem to be automatically changing the values in the common hazel material. Why would this happen as they are both using different master materials?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as Im just going round in cirlces constantly restarting the editor and re creating the materials.

Is there any way I can share the master mat and functions in here for examination if needed?

So I’ve managed to get thing to work, kind of, without freezing. Changed the names of the materials to have MAI at the start for the master instances, MA for the master and MF for the functions. Not sure that makes any difference.

Also gave up trying to ad the pivot painter textures to the MAI ad just add in the material.

Now the wind strength from MF advanced wind is pretty weak, compared to the effect the basic pivot painter wind function was giving with the imported files.

The wind values in the materials are cranked way up to get any effect at all which is still nothing compared to the effect the global foliage actor is having on the common hazel in the scene.

Enabling the shared wind settings causes the stalks and branches to go all wavy like noodles.

Its enables in the leaves but if I turn it up too high the leaves detach from the plant.

In the video the 2 bamboo plants on the left arent being effected by the global actor, they still have the old wind setup.
