I am experiencing a serious problem with UE, something I have never seen before.
Background:
I have been using UE for a while now and up until Tuesday, 20 September, everything was working fine. I received a windows update message (Windows 10) and I installed the update. However, now when I launch my project, no “pop-up” windows appear in UE and UE seems to crash/freeze. This happens in the following scenarios 1) I want to import new assets to UE, the import window is completely black and I am unable to safely close the window 2) importing textures, the message window is completely black and then UE seems to freeze, however the mouse moves around and when I hover on a particular texture it shows the incorrect texture description and doesn’t change even if I hover on another texture. And, 3) the exact same thing happens when I try and do a submit from UE, the changelist window comes up as black with no option to complete the description or select assets I wish to check in.
And, then UE freezes, becomes unresponsive, shows UE and the mouse works but I am unable to click on anything.
I have tried to capture some images but am unable to do so. I will continue to try.
I have uninstalled the last update from Microsoft but this doesn’t seem to have changed anything in so far as UE is concerned.
Could you please provide your dxdiag so I can take a look at your specs?
If you could provide images that would be helpful as well.
Does this occur in 4.13 as well?
Also, if you’re experiencing a crash, please provide your Machine ID from the Crash Reporter window if you’re getting one and ensure to hit Send & Close on the report.
Also provide the logs from your project’s Saved->Logs folder after the crash occurs again.
Give it a shot in 4.13 as well if you wouldn’t mind just for testing purposes. I’d like to see if the same issue occurs, as if it doesn’t, it will help me narrow it down to a particular fix.
Attached images. I can’t however include any images of the issue of freezing when using the terrain tool as this is just a screen shot of my screen frozen. I am definitely unable to capture any screens on the terrain issue. All I can say is that when I switch to the terrain tool, the following happens. If I am using sculpt and I want to switch to for example smooth, UE freezes. Or if I am accessing the terrain tool and then I want to switch immediately to for example smooth UE freezes. Each time this happens I have to use the task manager to end the process.
This sounds like a possible issue with your graphics card drivers. Can you please ensure that you have the latest drivers? Please provide your dxdiag one more time after you update if you aren’t on the latest. Thanks!
I have checked and all the drivers were up to date, but I did an uninstall of all of them again. Attached the latest DxDiag file after the restart.link text
Sean, my apologies, I never checked Nvidia’s site to see if they have any driver updates. I just used the device manager. I have done an update from Nvidia released on 21/09/2016 and this seems to have resolved the problem. I had with the terrain tools. I will check importing new assets shortly and send you an update.
In the mean time thank you ever so much for taking the time to look into this for me. I will be back in touch shortly to confirm whether the last issue has also been resolved.
