Unreal Challenge: Spellar Performance

Spell + star?

@SkyeEden could you help me understand the theme

The theme is the title itself, “Spellar Performance,” which is free to interpret, whether that is literally, through its play of words or other connections to it. This is down to you. The theme is a judging criteria, so we cannot be too specific here.

Really excited to participate in this challenge! I have a question though. Is it necessary/preferred to post WIPs like every week or so? Or should I just create a one-block post when I’m finished?

I am a complete n00b in UE5, but having a project with a deadline is something I need for motivation. You can only go so far following tutorials. Also, it’s very cool how SideFX is a sponsor on this challenge, and how they are offering a 2 month Houdini Indie license for participants of the challenge.

" * Created using Unreal Engine without any additional software or post-production tools"

But I guess I can create my own script as described in documentation for sequencer… right? While is executed in unreal

Does this mean you’d only accept uncompiled sequences rendered from Unreal? I generally do all of my renders as .EXR’s and then use a third party program like DaVinci Resolve to compile the sequence into a video render. If there is no post production work like color grading would a video render compiled in DaVinci still be allowed or would it need to be the full .EXR sequence?

Can I use copyrighted music in Unreal Challenges? It won’t let me post a question in the category, for some reason…

Hey @Nadir190. It isn’t a requirement to post WIPs. If you want to share them on the forums or socials, feel free!

@alberto Yes, as long as it is within the documentation and the export is encoded directly from Unreal

@alexmaha You must have permission to use the content included in your submission. Copyrighted content you do not have express permission to use is not allowed. You can find further information regarding liability within the official rules.

I hope this helps!

The only permitted use of post-production is for entrants to add music, as audio is not a category being judged. However, we reserve the right to request a video of the render process. The render must be encoded directly from Unreal Engine, per the official rules and submission criteria.

Hello everyone, can I remove a couple of seconds in the video in a third-party editor?
