Agreed, but it is especially disheartening coming from a company as perceivably as prestigious as epic that should most definitely have the budget to have people on top of the forums for contest they themselves are hosting. It not only make them look unprofessional but the companies they are collaborating with… the reallusion teams should be concerned for future collaborations.
Delays in the results/payouts are understandable, but the lack of communication is less so. It’d take 2 minutes for someone to check the status of the contest and just say ‘hey no ones managing this contest at the moment so it’ll probably be a few weeks’ or whatever the situation is.
Even if it takes 5 hours to chase up what’s going on with this contest, that seems tiny in comparison to the hours put in by all the entrants combined.
Epic is getting free spec work which promotes their engine, and specifically in this case to their big market of production/tv which brings in the $. I’ll think twice about these contests next time if they can’t get it sorted out soon.
Shouldn’t be a big ordeal for them to pay out a few thousand in prizes. They could even double it up and also pay some to all entrants for having to wait 10 months, without batting an eye.
If it’s some legal issue/complication/delays around the payments just let us know, and it’s all good, we’ll wait longer? But at the moment it’s looking like we’ve been scammed.
I made this Forum Post. After putting in multiple support tickets I finally got this decent response, “To clarify further here, the forums would be the best way of getting the message across. At the same time, Epic Games Player Support is not directly managing Unreal Engine”. So, I made this forum post if you guys want to go like and comment on it maybe we can get some traction and potentially get it noticed by the admins or developers or anyone who might be able to help so we can actually get our long overdue response about what is going on and why this has taken so long. https://forums.unrealengine.com/t/can-we-get-an-update-on-this-contest-its-been-months-and-no-one-from-epic-is-responding-to-anyone-https-forums-unrealengine-com-t-unreal-challenge-animation-1175886/1675176
@Tina_Wisdom None of the winners for this contest have received any update on when prizes or payouts might be distributed, and it has been months since the contest ended and winners were publicly announced. I think whichever admin was in charge of this thread abandoned it and that’s why there are dozens of comments of people asking for a response and/or update. Anyways if someone could update us that would be very much appreciated. Thanks.

Just like any other company. Apparently, epic will only give a ■■■■ if this issue gets some media attention, some blog articles and or relative YouTubers shedding light on this such lack of professionalism.
Epic got its own portfolio showcase as usual with such amazing work of everyone yet they ignored basic their ethicial duties.
Please give shout-out everyone who knows anyone with some social media presence to raise this issue a bit more in public eyes.
I think with a contest like this with multiple sponsors and such a lot could go wrong, giving out prizes especially money is legally complex.
I think rather than publicly saying the problems (which looks slightly bad) they’ve instead gone the route of just saying nothing and taking a long long time with it (which looks worse). Probably no one wants to deal with it and it’s just being passed on / ignored. Lets make sure if they run any gamejam again before completing this contest that people thinking to enter are well aware of this, if they haven’t at least communicated to us by then.
@Tina_Wisdom @Flak @kalishane_eg @Amanda.Schade @VictorLerp @Hourences Can we please get any form of update on this? ( These are literally all the staff members that I could find in the forum so hopefully one of them responds.)
Hey all, sorry for the delay here. We’ll check into it.
Thank you so much!!!
@NEED_A_JACKET @MetalBone @BrianVowles We finally got a response!
Thanks! Much appreciated
Awesome!!!
Finally, hope winners get their well deserved awards n recognition timely!!!
@parakyl I forgot to mention you in this but we kind of got a response. An Epic staff member said they will check into it last week so it hopefully shouldn’t be too much longer before we get some kind of clarification as to why this may have been so delayed.
I saw! And hearted lol.
I did get a non personalized email about signing up for the new vendor payment system. Last time it was tricky to get the prize money, I had to register as a vendor and submit an invoice or some such, it was super confusing. I guess they’re switching services and trying to sort all that out, maybe that’s part of the delay. Keep an eye out for an email regarding “coupa” from epic anyway, in case that’s what that’s about!
Thanks for this info!
It’s hard to believe they went almost 8 months without notifying any of the winners they even won. I had to find the webpage they made for the winning entries and post in on this forum because months had gone by and everyone was curious what was going on. Also 8 months to switch services and send out a few emails? All of it seems questionable but I think at this point what is important is that the 100’s of hours of time and effort that went into the winning entries shouldn’t go unrecognized(especially if they want to keep people coming back for future contests) and the overall lack of responsiveness from the staff on a contest held by Unreal is incredibly unprofessional other than @Flak, who I hope gets back to us! (Also, this makes the partnering sponsors look bad to. I am surprised no Reallusion reps have followed up on this to see what might be going on as well. Considering it’s the reputation of their company image on the line as well, it makes no sense to me that they wouldn’t have, but in their defense, they probably just assumed the Unreal admins had it covered.)
why bother your going to make this non free engine arent you?
Hi everyone,
Many apologies for the delay here. As the team has seen some shuffling since the announcement of the winners, reaching out to folks fell through the cracks. That’s on us—and I’m sorry you’ve waited so long. Your entries were incredible and we will absolutely be recognizing your work.
We’ll send out messages via forum to each winner by the end of the week so we can start delivering your much-deserved prizes.
Thanks for your understanding and keep an eye on those inboxes!
Amanda
Hey, the link that was given here Unreal Challenge: Animation - #30 by SkyeEden to watch submissions is dead, and using the hashtag link only shows a result of 5 random topics, is there any way to watch those submissions ?
