Game Shift is looking for talented game developers and artists to join our volunteer development team.
We are an independent game company currently developing two original games in Unreal Engine. We are looking to expand our team with experienced and motivated developers who want to keep creating, sharpen their skills, collaborate with other developers, and add meaningful work to their portfolio.
This is a volunteer/unpaid opportunity. We understand that many talented developers are currently between jobs or projects, and we’d like to provide an opportunity to continue working on real game-development projects with a team.
Positions Available
Unreal 3D Programmers
We’re looking for programmers with experience developing gameplay and systems in Unreal Engine.
Responsibilities may include:
- Developing gameplay systems in Unreal Engine
- Creating and maintaining Blueprints and/or C++ systems
- Implementing player mechanics
- Creating interactive environments and objects
- Debugging and optimizing gameplay systems
- Working with other programmers, designers, animators, and artists
Preferred experience:
- Unreal Engine 5
- Blueprints and/or C++
- Gameplay programming
- Familiarity with Unreal’s animation and character systems

Unreal 3D Gameplay & Animation Engineers
We’re looking for developers who enjoy working at the intersection of gameplay programming and animation.
Responsibilities may include:
- Implementing character animations and animation systems
- Connecting animations to gameplay mechanics
- Working with Animation Blueprints, Montages, State Machines, and related systems
- Implementing gameplay abilities and character interactions
- Collaborating with animators and gameplay programmers
- Debugging animation/gameplay issues
Preferred experience:
- Unreal Engine 5
- Animation Blueprints
- Animation Montages
- Blueprints and/or C++
- Gameplay programming
- Character animation systems

3D Modelers
We’re looking for 3D artists interested in helping create characters, environments, props, and other game assets.
Responsibilities may include:
- Creating 3D models and game-ready assets
- Creating props and environmental assets
- UV mapping and texturing
- Preparing assets for Unreal Engine
- Optimizing assets for real-time performance
- Working with programmers, animators, and other artists
Preferred experience:
- Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, or similar software
- Game-ready modeling
- UVs and texturing
- Unreal Engine asset preparation

We’re looking for animators interested in bringing characters and gameplay to life.
Responsibilities may include:
- Character animation
- Gameplay animations
- Creating and editing animation cycles
- Preparing animations for Unreal Engine
- Working with Animation Blueprints and Montages
- Collaborating with gameplay programmers and 3D artists
Preferred experience:
- Maya, Blender, 3ds Max, or similar software
- Character animation
- Game animation
- Unreal Engine animation workflows

We’re also looking for programmers interested in 2D gameplay and systems within Unreal Engine.
Responsibilities may include:
- Developing 2D gameplay systems
- Blueprint/C++ programming
- Implementing player mechanics
- Creating interactive systems
- Debugging and optimizing gameplay
Preferred experience:
- Unreal Engine
- Blueprints and/or C++
- 2D game development
- Gameplay programming
