Thank you “”
Hi Alexander (great name by the way)
Yes you can apply, we have around 20-30% of the course made up of students from around the world. Fees can be found here - ://www.herts.ac.uk/courses/3d-games-art-and-design. We look forward to interviewing you, good luck!
MA Alumni, Victor Gaza was a student from near your neck of the woods “” well he was in the country next door “Romainia” but close :). He is in the latest issue of 3dcreative #117, here is his work, after graduating he went to Sony London and then on to Sony Holland to work for the Killzone Studio on a cool new franchise. I wish we could keep hold of such great talent, you always know the ones heading for greatness
Playable game “Ascent” is getting a little more polished, read more about it here, deadline coming up on the 28th - ://www.cgstudentawards/game-of-the-year/ascent
Ascent is about a small insect character called Tari, she is compelled to climb high up into the canopy for reasons yet unknown.
Further on we discover a cordyceps fugus infection has driven Tari to climb, The game focuses on a visually pleasing aesthetic
and interesting, unique game mechanics. The main mechanic being Tari’s ability to fire seeds which create plants she can then
use to traverse the levels.
Lots of great work here! Really impressed. Games courses have come a long way over the last few years.
In terms of your now post-grads, do you have any knowledge or awareness about the Alacrity Falmouth programme (currently in the middle of a namec-hange to Launchpad)? The programme is run at Falmouth University and takes Postgrads with a 2:1 or higher. The idea is that alongside strategic industry partners, they develop their own products and companies over a 12-15 month period and incorporate at the end of it. As a bonus they also get a (currently free) Masters Degree in Entrepreneuship, specifically for the games industry. Guildford is arguably the ‘games capital’ of the UK, now we’re trying to start another one in Cornwall.
The programme always needs more applicants, I strongly recommend perhaps getting in touch with Nick Dixon at Falmouth and arranging a conversation of some kind. A lot of your students’ work here is stunning quality and could be perfect for the upcoming years. I’ve been a part of this first pilot year, and it’s been great. For the next few years I’ll probably help mentor too. I incorporate with my own company (this week in fact), and we have a product we’re ready to sell too. I’ve also met a lot of people I otherwise wouldn’t have had the opportunity to meet and start business relationships with them, giving me a lot of routes to market I wouldn’t otherwise have.
Great for anybody who wants to potentially try their hand at running their own company or making their own living rather than working for a large studio, or freelancing!
Sorry for the hijack, I think it’s worth looking at though!
Hi “The Jamsh”, Thank you, I will look into it and give him a call, I know the place well our technician went to that course, Also Cornwall has got to be Gods own county, its so beautiful
We also have a research lab starting in September, its called the Games & Visual Effects Research Lab (G+VERL)](://www.herts.ac.uk/cerc/projects/verl-visual-effects-research-lab) and we have space for X4 MA researchers to study for free (so if anyone is up for it give me a PM).
Personally I would love to see an indie games project in development but with Warner Bros. , Elstree , BBC Elstree, Leavesden feature film based 20 minutes away it may start in the VFX sector but we will see. We are sandwiched quite nicely between Cambridge and London which both have healthy games industry. We will see what happens come September
