Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0xffffffffffffffff

When i create a new blank game project on unreal engine, i receive the following error:

Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION reading address 0xffffffffffffffff

I’ve looked on support pages and whatnot and i CANNOT figure it out.

What I’ve tried:
Restarting computer
verifying unreal files
updating ALL drivers
switching from nvidia gaming drivers to studio drivers
(currently on studio drivers)

Hardware:

  • Intel Core i9-14900K 3.2 GHz 24-Core Processor
  • Asus ROG STRIX Z790-E GAMING WIFI II ATX LGA1700 Motherboard
  • G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB 64 GB (2 x 32 GB) DDR5-6800 CL34 Memory
  • MSI SUPRIM X GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER 16 GB Video Card

Note: I notice it only happens when creating a new project.

What can i do to fix this?

I believe “embree3” is related to ray tracing , try to disable any ray tracing for the project and load a default map (simple level map)

I haven’t had Raytracing enabeld, its been disabled. This error only occurs when i create a new game project as ‘blank’ instead of one of the other options like ‘First Person’ ‘Third Person’ ‘Top Down’ etc.

SOLVED: BIOS was out of date. Simply updated it and now everything works.
