Underwater

Hello!
This is a fish I created aiming to test UE Path Tracing render. I’m amazed with the results and the possibility to create powerful materials.
The fish model is based on many references I gathered for both silhouette and surfacing qualities, but the main design is taken from goldfishes, specially the eyes.
I hope you like it!

Hi there @gugroppo,

Hope you’re well and having a great week so far

This little guy is just adorable - in the creepiest way possible. His eyes are, of course, the best part. A mix of derpy and absolute malice. I can’t imagine how long this took to make but it turned out great!

Do you have any other projects in the works that we can look forward to seeing?

Hey! Week is being good! Thanks for the words!
I’m taking a break between projects, but soon I will come with new stuff!

Thank you!

absolutely amazing. the textures and the lighting looks great! Does look like the little one looks a little dusty? Or just a lot of algea! It looks awesome!

Hello @gugroppo ! Welcome back to posting with us here on the forums!

I can agree with what everyone else is saying. Your texturing is beautiful and the lighting makes the whole picture so immersive. I feel like I’m watching a video of someone exploring the water of the everglades. If I may ask, how long did a side project like this take?

Hey! Thanks for the words!

Yes, the trickiest part of the shading work was this roughness balance, to try to give that underwater loss of reflection look. The line between making it look believable and look dusty is very thin. Maybe on that image the lighting is a bit overbright.

Hi there! Thanks for you words!

Well, I started the modeling/sculpting work back in February this year, but I stopped it many times due to lack of free time. When I decided to finish it, it took me around 4 weeks working 2 hours/day on free time.
