Unable to launch UEFN

Just installed UEFN from epic games, launched it and the this came up. I have tried verifying the files, also epic games, fortnite and UEFN, all are installed in the C drive (i just checked and it sems like UEFN is installed somewhere in the fortnite folder, there isnt any separate UEFN folder, and also the UnrealEditor.exe is in the fortnite folder as well as the size of the fortnite folder increase by 20 gigs)

That’s correct, UEFN doesn’t get it’s own folder, it lives inside Fortnite’s directory. As for the errors you are getting, they point at missing files during startup:

  • ../../../FortniteGame/FortniteGame.uproject
  • ../../../FortniteGame/Content/Internationalization

Those files are part of UE’s startup data, and if those are missing, UEFN won’t boot at all.

For starterts, please confirm you are launching UEFN from the Epic Games Launcher, and not directly from the .EXE file. After that, I would suggest navigating to the folder in question, and making sure both locations exist in the directory:

  • FortniteGame\Content\Internationalization
  • Engine\Content\Internationalization

If the folders are empty, or entirely missing, then the files were not properly installed. At that point, a full reinstall would be in order. To do so, fully uninstall Fortnite/UEFN, then reinstall them.

Now, if the issue persists even after that, then you could be dealing with a corrupted install. In that case, you will need to remove the associated registry entries, and clear up all Epic content in your system for a clean slate. Please follow these steps to do so:

  • First, uninstall UEFN, the launcher, UE or any asset packs if you have them, etc

  • Next, open the registry directory, both at HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Epic Games and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Unreal Engine, then delete any entries tied to “UnrealEditorFortnite”

  • Finally, go to your local app data, and delete all folders from %userprofile%\AppData\Local\UnrealEditorFortnite, %userprofile%\AppData\Local\UnrealEngine and %userprofile%\AppData\Local\UnrealHeaderTool

  • After that, no Epic elements should be left in your system

  • Now, reinstall the launcher from scratch, then download Fortnite/UEFN

  • Once the process is complete, check opening UEFN, and testing a new island
