I’m a total newb to this, so please ignore my lack of knowledge. I created 1080p video on Pixel 9 Pro, and I can view the videos with no problem in Windows Media player on W10 Pro, but when trying to import the videos into RS, I receive the error: No suitable transform was found to encode or decode the content.
I do not doubt that this is a codec issue or something of the sort, but the only post I’ve been able to uncover is referencing 8k video and I’m not even shooting in 4k. I could just use some guidance on where to begin please.
The error message “No suitable transform was found to encode or decode the content” is almost always related to the video codec rather than the resolution. Even at 1080p, the Pixel 9 Pro often records using HEVC (H.265) by default. While Windows Media Player can sometimes handle this, RS may not be able to decode it without the proper codec support installed.
Here are a few things you can try:
1. Check the video codec
-
Right-click the video file → Properties → Details
-
Look for the “Video compression” or “Video codec” field
If it says HEVC / H.265, that’s likely the cause.
2. Install HEVC codec support (Windows)
-
In the Microsoft Store, search for “HEVC Video Extensions.”
-
Install it (if not already installed), then restart your machine and try importing again.
3. Convert the video to H.264 (recommended test)
If the issue persists, try converting the video to H.264 (.mp4) using a free tool like HandBrake:
-
Set format to MP4
-
Video codec: H.264 (x264)
-
Use Constant Frame Rate
After conversion, try importing that new file into RS.
If that resolves it, we’ll know it was a codec issue.
If you’re still seeing the error after trying the above, please let me know:
-
Your exact RS version
-
The video codec shown in the file properties
-
Whether hardware acceleration is enabled in your camera settings
