I’m currently struggling to find a way to allow players to choose a choose team during the pregame phase. The class selector device has the option to be enabled during pre-game only, which leads me to believe that they should work. That said, in all of my tests in private lobbies and published versions of the map, there devices seem to not work. Currently the players are distributed evenly between two teams, making it functional, but not ideal when it comes to players choosing what team they want to be on. Please let me know if you know how to fix this problem. If the device isn’t bugged and you’re simply not able to select teams during the pre-game phase, I believe that Epic should address and change this immediately.
Hey Jrunge,
Theres a bunch of new settings in Island Settings related to using custom teams, if they aren’t set right, what I gather from the mouse hover info, the fortnite engine will take control of teams.
You CAN change classes in pre-game but not teams since they will be assigned at game start. If its really crucial the picking happens in pre-game what I would recommend is set aside some classes for teams. So eg at game start anyone who is on class 21 will be team 1 anyone on class 22 will be changed to team 2 etc
This should work, thanks a lot.
Could you tell me how to do this in a bit more detail. I attempted this by copying the spawn pads in each teams’ area but changing them to only be usable by the respective class. But the problem I kept running into is that regardless of what class I selected in the pre-game phase, I spawned at one of the spawn pads designated for Team 1 because the game auto assigned me to Team 1 still. And to my knowledge you can’t just disable a spawn pad for one round because you will still spawn there and it won’t be disabled until the round countdown finishes. There are actually a whole string of issues that come with my current system, is there a simpler way to do this?
well ussualy people have a “lobby” place where people are placed at the start of the match and then they teleport/set people to the correct teams. Just because a person has class 21 doesnt mean they will be placed on team 1 you will need to setup a way to get the class 21 and turn anyone in it into the team 1 then class 22 team 2 etc
That’s where things get kind of complicated. I want the players to pick a team in the beginning (pre-game) and remain on that team for the next 5 rounds. Getting them to their spawn areas and setting their teams through teleportation and class selection devices is very possible, but now I’m stumped on how to auto-assign people who are afk during the pre-game selection process. Normally the engine would just auto-assign people the afk people to a team, but this is bad because now you could have 4 afk players spawn at Team 1’s spawn pads at game start and additionally have 2 players that are teleported to team 1’s spawn because they selected that team. There are 2 teams on my map and each team should be capped at 4 players. Any idea on how to disperse afk players to classes that make the teams even? The spawn pads for each team are crucial because teams are rotated every round.
Well you could try to re-distribute players after a game has started using verse by giving them a new team and class and re-teleporting them to the correct spawn. As for the team rotation unfortunately since you are using custom teams you can’t use that function since it only affects the teams that would be generated by the game itself on game/round start something that you’re trying to ovveride by assigning players wherever they want so I don’t know what advise to give regarding that sry.
Cause I keep procrastinating on getting into verse, I have been using player reference devices to grab players for class and team change.
Getting all players assigned to a different player reference is a bit of a puzzle, as is enabling / disabling all the relevent devices to pick up a player reference activation for team/class change.
