As mentioned in the question, the preview is all black after the update, so it is difficult to see what the material is without opening it. I wonder if there is any way to solve this problem
Everybody has this. Yes, it’s undoable. I assume it will get fixed eventually 
I was able to get the preview back by opening the material and saving again
