UE5 is garbage and convoluted

I am a developer for both Unity and CryEngine, and since Unity doesn’t have good graphics and CryEngine is no longer updated, I decided to use Unreal Engine since it is the only engine closest to Rockstar Games’ RAGE, but it is difficult and the old tutorials on YouTube are not valid. I even have trouble creating a main menu with the game’s background, and I have never understood how to export the game in .exe format because the AI tells me to go to Platforms > Windows and then Package Project, but I can’t find anything, and in the tutorials they show it differently. It’s an incredible confusion, for sure, it is a powerhouse of strength, but I don’t intend to lose my mind over stupid graphics. I prefer to make a multiplayer with Adobe Animate and protect the multiplayer with Ben Olmstead’s Malbolge (I know Malbolge well, I have no problems with that). Just to note that much has changed recently with the addition of Lumen, Nanite, Metasounds, PCG, and the like. A bit of a paradigm shift in the underlying Unreal tech has rendered older stuff outdated. You just happen to hit Unreal mid-shift so it might make sense the vid-scene is a bit lacking.

We’re you looking for particular topics?

Wouldn’t say cryengine is dead, but can be dying (might see in 4-10y). as they are maybe in the middle like with source engine “1 and 2”, or old unreal’s “fps room-like shooters”. if they can get out of this state, also the huge amount of tech and money that goes into all of this (luckily some is free research), and making an engine satisfy a certain modern need, or various genres and needs.

But do agree that UE5 can be too area focused, being both a good and bad thing. that each area you go into has to learn what everything means and how each thing works with each other.

like mentioned above, there is more “common user” friendly tools released and worked on without needing to become an expert at everything, that are paid in some engines. hopefully this will carry this engine to be more user friendly and easier to create stuff, then to the direction they take with AI which is also bad and good, to help understand some of areas one might not know, in the more library/teaching Artificial response systems. more so, if something is updated and wanting the newest information, so long they dont train on your products/code.

It would be nice if there was just a more simple UE5 layer, to remove a lot of bloat that is not fully needed for the single or few creators and faster to “use”. Also similar UE5 design bloat that seems too focused on teams and 100+ menus, buttons, through layers and layers to use what you want and how you want it. which can eat a lot of time compared to most other engines in how one navigate all the features, but some UE5 features are good to have.
