[UE5] How to make a simple custom animation sequence?

I used the sequencer to create a simple animation for a little robot I have. I created the keyframes manually. Auto key isn’t working for me. I thought it was the little icon with the key in it, but that does nothing.

Anyhow, after manually creating the animation, it played just fine and I saved it. I closed sequencer, but wanted to create a transition animation though maybe I don’t need to. Anyhow, I double clicked my animation sequence and it opened up the window with the skeleton and the mesh. The sequence showed up below, but it was a hot mess. It seemed like it was playing a different animation even though the correct one was playing, but it was all wrong. The arms were twisted in on itself. Really bad. Oh and it has tons of tracks on bones I did not touch.

I opened up the sequencer for this animation and it’s completely blank.

Anyways, I have no idea what I’m doing anymore. How do you use the sequencer? I just want to create a simple little animation where his arms are on his side just moving a little for a simple idle pose.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I found there was a subfolder created and tons of level sequences in there. I take it every time you click edit with sequencer, it creates a new file. Anyhow, one of the files had my original animation. The linked animation is still messed up. No clue what’s going on there. So I created a new animation from the level animation for the robot skeleton and that created a standalone animation sequence for the robot. That one works fine.

Autokey still doesn’t work. Is this part of the software really flaky? Or do I just not know what I’m doing? It seems really hit or miss to me. I had previously got done doing animation retargetting on 3 different skeletons and that works amazingly well. Saddened that editing of those animations doesn’t work as well.

Also, is there a way to convert an animation from 30fps to 60fps without adding extra frames? IOW, I want it to play faster as is.

Not sure if you’ve read through this, but for autokey to start adding keys, you need to create at least 1 key on the particular track. That one key tells the system that you want to animate the track. Without this, the system allows you to adjust the unkeyed value regardless of what the current frame is. Hope this helps some.
