UE5 Foliage tool - UI visual glitch

Hello everyone, I have a question/problem regarding the “Foliage Mode” tool in “Unreal Engine 5.1.0 Preview”. Perhaps somebody can help me or had the problem before.

I noticed that I’m missing the details panel below my various instances in the foliage tool and I can’t figure out whether I’m missing a certain setting or they got relocated to another spot. I already checked the “Hide/Show details for selected foliage types” button but it won’t toggle the details panels on or off. The only possibile way for me to adjust the properties of my foliage instances is when I create a “FoliageType” asset and then open it in the content browser. I attached some screenshots that show my missing Details panel in the foliage mode.

I hope anyone can help me with this issue as it makes the workflow of the foliage tool very tedious. However I assume it might be a rather unique bug that I have with my Unreal UI even though I haven’t changed the layout and it is a very fresh install.

best regards

Believe it or not, there is an option ‘show details’ :zipper_mouth_face:

I’ve already checked the settings before. Nothing in there has helped solving the problem. Besides that there is not even a “show details” option inside

Sorry, didn’t actually check. You need this on

I attached some screenshots in my 1st post and also mentioned it in my starting post that I already have tried it. You can see that the Foliage Tool UI behaves strangely if I toggle it on/off

Ok, sorry. Then maybe it is busted… :joy:

With that “Show Details” on, scroll right to the bottom, put the mouse over that horizontal bar and drag it upwards…

I appreciate your guys help. However I already tried moving up the scroll bar… perhaps having screenshots isn’t a proper way to show off the problem. I just wanted to visualize how my “Details” panel is looking like. The scroll bar just shows that there is an endlessly empty panel on the left side without any properties. Usually there should be different options such as “Align to normal” or “override materials” and such.

I just installed UE 5.0 to check if it is working there and it does. So apparently it only happens in the 5.1 preview version. Some weeks ago I build a 5.1 version from github and the problem with the missing detail panels also happened there. So perhaps there are some settings cached somewhere which the 5.1 preview from the launcher also uses and thus shares the same “bug”.

Are you absolutely sure? I had exactly the same issue but found the below fixes it:

You are indeed right! Sorry, I apparently misread your post. I somehow thought you meant the vertical scrollbar. This fixed the problem!! Thank you very much

#Edit: Apparently the fix is only temporary. This bug occurs everytime I go back in the foliage tool.

I submitted an issue report for this particular bug so if you’re affected by this problem too you can vote here:
