UE5 crashing on saving anything

Happening on 5.2 and 5.3. Saving a level or ‘save all’ will freeze and crash the editor about 50% of the time. Doesn’t save. Right clicking any asset and saving also crashes about 50% of the time. Doesn’t happen on small template projects only on projects with stuff in em. The only way that seems to work is if you go down to the bottom right and use that ‘x unsaved’ button. That works about 90% of the time. Anyone know whats up?

Unreal engine 5.3 - Same thing happening. I have been searching for a fix or solution today for a few hours. This post was Aug. 7, it its now September. I saw another post a day ago that had an Epic Staff post this for verification.

Other Link and forums

Nitro 5 - 32gb ram - 3060 rtx, 1tb sdd, ryzen 5800 H
GFX Driver version Nvidia - 537.42

Loading up a projects - Crashes on SAVE ALL - or save.
content / Assets do not always “save” potential for corruption.

I will try the bottom right - “unsaved button” you were describing.

Yup same here, had to quit using UE5 because of this. No report crash just ctrl alt del. If it helps unreal on the troubleshooting, my cpu said 0% under UE5 process thread, about 2.5-3.0 gb ram usage.

Same here. I have 2 machines I work on. My desktop with a Ryzen 9, 64gb of ram and rtx 4070ti doesn’t have this issue.

I just bought an Asus Tuf A15 - Ryzen 9, 16gb ram, rtx 4060 just hangs on save like every 5 to 10 minutes. I don’t have to CtrlAltDel, instead I have to kill the Editor process from the windows task manager. New drivers installed, all the usual level 1 troubeshooting.

I use version 5.2.1, just because it’s more stable for VR development. Only happens on this laptop.

I found a solution that worked for me:

  1. Make sure you have the latest Windows updates
  2. Make sure your high-powered GPU is set as your main video card. See this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9wXMHSvssQ (AMD cards should have something similar)

I noticed my machines RTX card wasn’t showing as the main card. Most motherboards come with an embedded GPU. So this is a common issue. After doing these steps I haven’t experienced any crashes. Hope that helps.
