UE5.5.0 changed fbx import smothing group behaviour?

Hi,
I’m not certain if this is the right section of the forum to post this, but I have an issue with the .fbx import in the most recent release.

I’m importing .fbx files that I was using in previous versions UE 5 and all was fine and imported correctly. In 5.5.0 it is as if the smoothing groups are completely ignored. (CAD models that are imported in Cinema4D, reworked, Phong tags applied and exported again. This worked so far without problem.)

the same .fbx file imported in 5.4.4 gives a different result than when imported in 5.5.0

anyone knows what I need to change or if this a bug? did i miss a setting during import that was always ticked before or that needs checking now?

Hi @macray,

You can try comparing the import settings between the previous version and the current one to ensure they are configured the same way. Another thing you can try is experimenting with different options for the “Normal Import Method” to see what results you get.

Additionally, consider exporting the file using different FBX versions. Newer FBX versions often have better compatibility.

According to a forum post down in this form, epic did change the import system, so probably the settings you used to have were invalidated by the update and all you need to do is set them back up.

You usually want the MikkTSpace in order to import.
