UE5.3 crashes when importing DOP/Flip solver VDBs

I made a nebula in Houdini 19.5 for my animation, it is a flip solver particle emitter from a sphere to simulate a nebula.

I’d like to place it in my scene but when i try to import the sequence (I also tried to add .vdb frames gradually) it costantly crashes after the SparseVolumeTexture loading bar.

I used this simulation in V-Ray with C4D without major troubles, I also tried to re-export from Houdini using a primitive node (which make it lighter with 16 bit float).

Same problem here. UE 5.3 won’t import VDB from Houdini

I found what could be potential crash: you VDB file should not contain dots in it’s filename

Once i posted this i tried to change name to numerical only, alhpanumerical only but nothing fixes. Do you have Age and Surface as properties?

My simulation is not a pyro so no heat.

I was actually able to import static vdb files by using the “32 bit float” opt in the import menu, but it still fails to import simulated VDB sequences from houdini, has anyone found the solution to this yet ?

i’m experiencing same crash problem while importing 8bit vbds from embergen
its showing animation vbd loading bar and it loads upto 99% and it crashes im using 32 gb ram and ram gets overload can i have some suggestions

I’m having the exact same issue here. VDB Sequence import stops at 99%. I have no problem when importing static VDBs. I made my own VDBs in Houdini and tried the no dot name option too. I’ve seen users (@Postprocessed) importing a animated VDB to UE5.3 on a YouTube video and the VDB he uses was made by another creator expert in houdini, so I suspect that It could be a source (Houdini/embergen) problem?

Anybody find the solution? Maybe crash for the memory or space on C:/?

I abandoned the project and did the VFX into Unreal using Niagara, such a mess to replicate it.

Check that the VDB voxel size is consistent.
