It works, thank you very much
do you found a solution? I have the same problem
I was having the same issue. To solve it I renamed the fbx file removing the spaces and adding dashes (-) to separate the words. I also clicked on “Import Animations” under Animation in the FBX Import Options window.
I have the same proplem im press the Skeltal mesh and nothinng works is stay frezzing
Hey! I found a workaround that should work if you’re just importing a static mesh, nothing too fancy otherwise. Use OBJ format instead. I am working with some VERY heavy tree meshes, and they refused to import using FBX files, no matter what settings I used to export/import… I switched to OBJ files and they import as expected like magic. Hope this helps somebody!
This also worked when changing the file type in the explorer window didn’t
Thank you so much! ㅠ.ㅠ it works!
So, what i’ve found is, unreal ISN’T freezing. I’ve watched task manager for HOURS and it is under load without any other programs running. The import does actually succeed after about 2 hours. I’ve never experienced this before. The game i’m making imported the original armor sets without issue. Now I can’t remember if i was on 5.3 or 5.32 when i originally imported the armor sets. But i am definitely on 5.3.2 and getting this problem. Yes my armor sets are complex geometry, but i have attempted importing far less complex geometry and it still takes hours. Tried the “set import to FBX (skeletal mesh)” makes no difference. I haven’t upgraded to 5.5 cos everything was working. Should i just upgrade?
This really doesn’t apply to this thread, as it refers to skeletal meshes, not static meshes.
You stated “just importing a static mesh, nothing too fancy otherwise. Use OBJ format instead. I am working with some VERY heavy tree meshes”. Nothing too fancy coupled with VERY heavy tree meshes, is completely contradictory even if we were talking about static meshes. As it is your first post, I recommend you understand what you are talking about before giving advice to others.
okie, not sure if this is very useful, but yeah. i guess a lot of different things seems to make unreal freeze up while importing .fbx files. and if you can’t find out why it’s happening, you can just run unreal via visual studio in “Debug mode”. and when you import a model and unreal freezes up, you’ll get a tiny message telling you why unreal froze.
Life saver!!
