Overall the project runs with a very high framerate in PIE, but if I ‘eject’ the control of the character and then select an object in the scene, Unreal seems to cap the CPU at approximately 10-12% and the framerate goes from 90+ to 2. The Editor itself is unresponsive, clicks go unrecognized or take 20+ seconds to enact. Happens even if I select the landscape, or an AI actor. Selecting a standard static mesh seems OK though. If I select the Landscape it becomes totally unresponsive and eats all the memory, though doesn’t seem to actually crash.
Any advice or help would be appreciated.

Unfortunately changing background save resources setting did not improve the situation.
