Ue4 will not open my project

I was working away quite happily (4.6), at the stage of baking lighting. I had done a couple of bakes with different settings. Sometimes when I bake my pc hangs/crashed so I restart and lower the settings slightly in Ue4. Now though when I try to load my project I get a box open that says

44861-error.jpg

I don’t see where I get any more info than this.

I don’t want to lose my work at all and start over.

I tried to update Ue4 after this happened as there was now a prompt for it in the epics game launcher to 4.6.7
Nothing else changed. I mean I while i was working I did not change any pc settings/hardware/software.

Any help would be much appreciated. I did look on here for similar issues, one saying to delete 2 folders one of which I could locate, when I tried this is made it worse (Ue4 wouldn’t even load)

I had a similar problem in UE4.6 that I was only able to “fix” by converting the project to 4.7.

If that doesn’t work for you, maybe uninstall and reinstall the engine?

Thanks so much I will try that… I didn’t realise you needed to actively convert your project to work with a new version rather than this being automated. Although the issue was before I updated, never the less I will google Concerting and give it a try.

Thanks for taking the time to reply Much appreciated !!!

You actually don’t need to convert your project if you just update from 4.6.6 to 4.6.7. However, you do need to convert it if you want to make the jump to a new major release, for example 4.6 to 4.7, which is basically a new editor. However, I just realized you probably meant version 4.7.6 in the first place rather than 4.6.7. So the only new version you could convert your project to is 4.8, which is only a preview so far.

However, if reinstalling the engine doesn’t work, you could still try converting a copy of your project to 4.8 and see if that fixes the issue.

Good luck.

I tried to go back…
Failed to load map!
…/…/…/…/…/…/Users/JANE/Documents/Unreal Projects/PBR_Demo/Content/StarterContent/Maps/Minimal_Default.umap is a UE4 map [File:v434], from an engine release newer than this [Cur:v413].

I tried to go back 4.6.1 … Failed to load map…Documents/Unreal Projects/PBR_Demo/Content/StarterContent/Maps/Minimal_Default.umap is a UE4 map [File:v434], from an engine release newer than this [Cur:v413].

I restarted my pc after installing new/old versions. So I reinstalled 4.7.6 again. Restarted pc again. Tried to load my project again to no success. Thought well I’ve wasted ages trying to get it to load why not just try again whats another 5 mins to all my time compared to what I’ve spent already investigating … SUCCESS !!! It makes no scene at all. I have not changed files within my project or installed the version in a different way (as you can’t its automated) again my issue (project not loading) was existing before my update…I am super happy my level is loaded just feel frustrated I have no idea what was causing it or what fixed it. It’s one thing to have time wasted trouble shooting many things, and I know it could be worse and not have loaded now…however for me the better outcome would be to understand a little what actually happened so I feel I learnt and there’s a reason why it failed to load. Just frustrating.

Thanks everyone

Great and I thought yesterday was bad… I was rendering lightmaps… on preview … pc crashed and now it will not load. I’m going to try a old grapics card in it but my card is a good one so for it to die like this is terrible. I’m not happy at all… I hope it is just graphics card and not my has died … but if I can get it work again I don’t see a way to move forward with UE4 again.

Hi jenter3d,

You suspect it may be caused by your graphics card? If you like, feel free to post your Dxdiag (system specs), Crash Logs, DMP file, and crash reporter Callstack.

Here is a link to help you find all of that info.

Hi jenter3d,
