That’s why I’m leaning towards UE4 with the already stated problem being optimization. I can’t stand by an engine with a crappy business model where the entire point is to get people to spend money, rather than provide a good product.
I know. They have some really bad buisness model. But hey, Good games come out of it. But this has sadly become the way game companies work now. Epic though is a shining light in the darkness for some of us. The only downsides I have with UE4 are. High specs for Creating games, Bugs (being fixed though), Forced use of C++ if you program (Not terrible though.), That’s about it. (I wish they had Source Filmaker like program with unreal.)
Do you know if BP performance is as bad as everyone says?
For what I do, It has never really been a problem. But it is quite possible it can slow it down.
I hope you figure out what Engine you wan’t. I’m Goin of the grid. (For now.) To play some Mokey island!

I’m on the phone with her now, she said that the issue is more of the parental controls over Norton.
Most likely what I’ll do, but it will take some convincing. She HATES when I buy things for her if they aren’t necessary. She’ll get frustrated for an hour or so, just accept it, and be glad she has it xD
To be honest, that solution is much more powerful than the built in BSP editing in UE4. If it was to be released for UE4 I would probably buy it.

From what you described, targeting a “crappy laptop”, I think you have no choice but Unity.
Or have you considered other much light-weight engines like or urho3d?
Its on my buy list, but really not comparable to ProBuilder.

There are other programs that can block websites. Much better ones in fact. You are more likely to get a suggestive pop up cause Norton couldn’t stop it! (Happens all the time. My brothers computer no longer is on the Net cause Norton let a REALLY bad pop up through. And Avast seems to perform better! And that’s just the free one! So I would suggest Killing Norton! (Install Avast before removing Norton! Or it will unleash all the viruses in The Virus Vault!

Orge3d? Irrlicht? (Did I spell that right?)
I looked into for awhile, but I’m not sure how I feel about it yet. Haven’t looked .
I can’t really find much on this Irrlicht.
The hard thing I found about Cryengine was importing assets and textures. With UnrealEngine, its just drag and drop and it works.
It is much easier in Unreal. But it’s not to bad. I come from the wonderful world on Dromed. (Dark engine map editor for Thief and System shock.) And you almost don’t notice if you use it alot.
It’s on sourceforge. Also… I know you probably don’t care about this one… Xash3d. A great Gold source based engine! (Paranoia 2 uses it. Paranoia is a free game. )
