UE4 subscription?

Before I commit to the UE4 engine I want to have a couple of things clear to me.

  1. When I get the subscription and cancel it immediately, after installing UE4, do I still have a month access to the market place and other features requiring a subscription?
  2. When I subscribed once can I use UE4 on both my Desktop PC and Laptop?
  3. After the subscription period is over do I still have access to the version I signed up for or do I have to back it up?
  4. What is the benefit of keeping a subscription besides new updates and the marketplace?
  1. You dont need an active subscription for the marketplace
  2. yes -> you can install it on as many pc’s you like (as long as **you **just use it)
  3. you are still abel to download the engine
  4. you support epic games so that they can make the engine better

I don’t work for Epic … but here is my understanding.

  1. Yes - it is a monthly subscription … so you still have access for a month.
  2. Yes - there is no limitation to how many machines you can install it on.
  3. Yes - you still have access and no you don’t have to back it up. You will have access to the version you subscribed on and earlier versions if I understand correctly.
  4. Except for the ones you mentioned maybe because you want to pay for the software you use and support Epic to make updates and keeping the engine Epic.

Epic take a chance by letting you subscribe and cancel and then give you access to the last version you subscribed on … but ultimately it is your choice to cancel when you want.

When I sign up for a subscription and got the 4.5 Version in that period. The subscription expired 2 months agocan I download and use the 4.7 version? Because I was able to download the 4.7 release and it actually downloading right now.

Normaly: NO.

You can only download new Updates of the Engine if you have a subscription.
If you are still able to download the new Engine, then go check your Account settings
on the unrealengine main page for your currently subscription status.

On your “Home” page, you can see if it is canceled and on the left side you can see
the expire date of your engine subscription.

If you are really not subscriped and you are still able to download the new version… well
then i will need to address you to Staff guys, figuring out why x).

Oh… in that case, please do so ^^ (I had no intention to do something bad). I will of course subscribe at the beginning of march.

Edit
To be a bit more specific:

  1. I went to the GitHub Repo
  2. Clicked on “Release”
  3. Downloaded 4.7 release
  4. Started Setup.bat

Is it correct that I should not be able to do so, when I don’t have a subscription?

Well mainly i’m looking to just have some fun with the engine so it is really not worth it for me to subscribe, i’m kinda on a low budget atm anyway ;). And when I do earn millions on a game Epic has plenty of money to invest in the engine :).

Since I do not need a subscription where can I find the market place? I would love to browse it, or do I need to have UE4 to browse it?

@Fortuna
Quick, delete all traces

Since i don’t want to give you false advice, i contacted the Staff guys (:
Don’t fear. I don’t think you did something wrong.

In the past you needed UE4 Launcher … now however they have released it on the web: UE4 MARKETPLACE … dun dun dunnnnnn.

Ohhh, I tried looking for that yesterday. Do you need a subscription to see it? Since now I subscribed and it is showing up.

Sidequestion: The euro or dollar signs in the marketplace do not show up, they show up like an A with a roof symbol. I am using Chrome as my browser. Any idea why? This might deserve or already has it’s own question.

I guess this problem has everyone. This is even visible in the Account Settings. Guess someone messed up the code x) Will tell Staff about it. Thanks.

Yeas, I saw tweet about this, a couple of hours ago. I had just come off lunch, where I had spent an hour looking at Unreal clips on YouTube. I had bought my first weapons collection (the black one) within 10 mins.

(I’m always more enthusiastic after lunch. By the time I get home, I’m tired, and too busy with the wife and kids to do any proper marketplace browsing).

Awesome! Thx for the info
