Ok, this new editor seems very convoluted and mathematic/scientific for someone like me who’s really only ever had experience with the old Unreal 2 Editor, so what I’d like to know is this: What slew of mapping techniques can be applied in the UE4 Editor for SIMPLIFYING mapping for someone with limited experience of the new editor?
For example, say I want to make a mover move up n down by itself after being triggered by a player actor in-game,. or, some lights to move with a vehicle or a particle effect to a waterfall,… what techniques can be used which would NOT require extensive knowledge of Blueprints?
In short, can the new editor be set up so that it can function and be set up so it allows mappers like me to do things the old-school, UT99 editor, way?
Is this making sense?
I watched a tutorial earlier today to make a sliding door,… input, output, vectors, variables, target, position, location,… wtf?! Are you serious, Epic?! I’m not a scientist or mathematician,… I’m a guy with a creative edge,… an ‘artist’, (of sorts), if you will.
Will I be able to do things like I used to or will I be consigned to the waste-bin of uselessness because of some tarted-up interface that requires a degree in map editing just to make the basic things in a basic map, function? Add an actor, click on a simple pop-down menu, match some names, set speed, type of movement, type of activation, length of time to stay open, whether to destroy player actor upon encroach, (or not), then a simple map build,. et voila - why does the new editor have to be so convoluted and scientific? I’m a simple guy, I don’t understand all this fandango-gooly stuff!
Please, can someone help me with explaining what options I have for editing actors in maps like I’m used to?
