Hello,
I have been experiencing this issue with my Ue4.12.5 and Ue4.13.2. whenever I open a new project and try to choose an option that has a small window menu, like new class blueprint creation or texture color windows, it seems to open freeze the whole engine. I can see the second window for the menu option in the taskbar, but there is nothing actually on my desktop.
Here is what it looks like:
I Dont know why its doing this, Ive been searching online for an answer and i cant find anyone with this same issue. Ive tried reinstalling the engines and checking my event viewer, but i don’t get any information.
Is there a way to find a log of errors for the engine? Or if anyone knows how to resolve this? I posted my DxDiag in case someone needs it.

No one?
Thats fine. I’ve been researching some more and i still cant figure out what the issue is, i’ve reinstalled directX, reinstalled my graphics drivers, I still cant find out what the issue is.
If someone could at least have the decency to let me know if there is a way I can diagnose it myself, ill be on my way.
Hey Corntoast,
I cannot reproduce your issue nor can I find a internal report regarding anything similar.
Your computer seems more than capable, so I don’t think it is a hardware issue.
My first step would be to run the task manager while you are using UE4 and see how much processing / memory it is using during the states at which you get hung up. You could also monitor how many other resources your other programs are using, which could be a factor in UE4 being slow.
Ill keep an eye out and see if there is any more information that I can provide.
I found out what the issue was.
My Stealth MSI Pro Series comes with an app called SteelSeriesEngine That apparently integrates laptop hotkey configurations within the interface of unreal engine. Once uninstalled i experienced much better fps and I was able to access smaller menus again.
This might be something to look into in the future, as I was hinted upon this issue in this other post: Awful UI lag rendering the editor unusable - Programming & Scripting - Epic Developer Community Forums
There might be other MSI products that cause issues with unreal engine, such as True Color and Steel Series.
