UE4 Editor keeps on Crashing

UE4 keeps crashing about 1 minute after open ANY project…

I didn’t have this problem at all before and suddenly the editor started crashing on all my projects…

Crashes mostly happen when complilng or moving in the viewport
The crash hass to do something when trying to run the RHIThread, i’ve attached the full crash log

I’ve tried ‘Verifying’ the installation in Epic Games Launcher, and tried updating all my drivers

Any idea how to solve this?

I have teh same error and also the another one that is the white screenshot, sometimes the white screenshot appears but is more often the error of the black screenshot,
I have an AMD platform is because of that?

UE4 has always been crash-tastic for me, right from when I first started using it.
The main problem I’ve noticed, is when changing console variables or project settings that the developers did not anticipate for whatever reason.
I am longing for the day where I can pick whatever settings I want/need, and the engine doesn’t crash on me due to the fact that a programmer didn’t see me enabling X as an option in my project.

I see this graphics error alot now, I am new to unreal and cant find any information on the cause of the error. I think …

  1. These two 1080’s I have in sli configuration, just do not have the power to cope, with real time rendering a scene large than 2500m^2.

  2. Performance vs quality is a ratio I’m struggling to measure, maybe I am just overloading the scene, and rendering options.

  3. Is it something in Windows 10, is there a Nvidia driver I’m missing, Should I have installed UE from GitHub, where is ue4.sln.

Ultimately, I would like to know why it happens, it is me or is it the GPU or is it a software bug. Its getting boring now.

Try Restore to default settings in the Manage 3D settings in your Nvidia control panel.

If you have two GPUs, try turning SLI off, then disable the second GPU in device manager. This actually completely fixed the crashes for me. I’ve been developing using dual Titan RTXs working on a project that involves ray tracing, one GPU was performing other tasks in the background for other 3D applications and the main GPU was handling Unreal Engine, however I discovered that even having the second GPU enabled in device manager & idle was causing crashes.

I have not had this error since a combination of events. Despite being unsure if any of them being affective.

  1. I discovered how to assemble a scene by using level components within a persistant level. Terrain Buildings Lights are all seperate levels now.
  2. I installed all of the Nvidia Developer SDK’s stuff. I installed all the Andriod SDK’s etc.
  3. Unreal editor 4.25 had an update.

It could be a combination of the three, or maybe it was just the update. I still have SLI on.

Though I put the PhysX on the first card that has the monitor plugged in. The second card is running these things.

I would like to elaborate on my last entry in this thread. I have been using 4.25. and after five months with a new computer, UE4 began crashing as soon as I would open any project. I reinstalled windows and ue4. Technical support from DELL thinks I need more RAM ( I have 16 Gb) but the program works ok on an older machine with only 8 Gb. I used a windows app to check the RAM and it’s OK. I can’t tell if the power supply is involved but Power usage and memory usage for UE4 is high per task manager even on the older machine on which it does not crash. MyEvenViewer seems to show a significant event around the time of the crash citing “XTOCDriverService” but when I google this it seems to be something they claim computer “enthusiasts” use. I never installed it. Windows reset does not get rid of it. I also notice that all the exe files in each project, on the C drive and my external drive now have a uproject file extension. My antifvirus software programs have not detected malware. Does this sound like anything anyone has run into? I’m thinking about switching from Windows to Linux in case this is connected with all the bloatware. Has that worked for anyone?

Finally, I performed a clean reinstall of Windows 10 according to the instructions for versions 2004 and later, as per instrux at this link.
