UE4 31fps in Empty map

I started a new game in an empty map and it is loading at 31 fps
I just got a new laptop, I thought my assets were really bringing down the fps at first but it does this on an empty map
My laptop has a gtx 1070 - 16gb ram - SSD + HDD. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus-rog-strix-gl702vs-17-3-laptop-intel-core-i7-12gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1070-1tb-hard-drive-armor-titanium/5712361.p?skuId=5712361

Any Ideas on why this could be happening? Any tips on ways to optimize performance or tips on lowering framerates?

How stable is the fps? Update your GPU drivers with Geforce Experience, and then try force closing anything that you do not absolutely need for the laptop to function and see if something is bogging down the fps. In the case of my MSI laptop, I had some pre-installed MSI screen color stuff that really killed my performance until I uninstalled it.

Looks like my comp had a 30 frame cap on it in the Gforce driver, so it’s not nearly as bad as I thought, but it still appears to be running pretty slow. Slapped down a landscape and a material and its at 30 fps already. It jumps/Drops frames quite quickly

Yeah, it could be some utility causing problems still. You should try packaging an empty map into a game and see how performance looks in the game itself. I would also try just standalone game from the editor, maybe that will make a difference.

Is it actually using the 1070 and not the onboard?

Make sure to force Windows to use your Nvidia GPU, otherwise there’s no guarantee that it will use it for stuff like Unreal.
