UE Severe Censorship Restrictions

I’ve recently came across a youtube video of a guy talking about some of UE’s policies/restrictions which could possibly get a game’s account banned either temporarily or permanently which is highly concerning.

I understand some restrictions on religious things and not making games with gameplay being that of genocide of a certain race or just plain out racial style gameplay and such. In other words I agree with building a game which doesn’t necessarily offend the general public besides having violence cause I mean more than 30% of all games appear to have some form of violence and that being said onto my point.

As both a Star Trek fan and Star Wars fan including other sci-fi titles I aim to build an epic intergalactic warfare game with full multiplayer support. However one thing a guy mentioned on youtube was one of the “banned words” which could get a game banned is using the word “Nuke”. I planned not only for my game to have many types of weapons but also nuclear missile types but during weapon selection/loadout if a missile is a nuke I want to be able to call it just that “a nuke” like maybe choose 50 air to space type missiles and maybe 5 nukes to load onto an intergalactic warship.

Then there’s also the issue of using the words him/her or pronoun restrictions or whatever. Also you have to refer to a robot character as an it and not him or her or your game you worked so hard on get’s banned??? I only have GED and honestly don’t even know what a pronoun is but I do know how to read/write/program/3d model design and so on. Meaning you don’t need a high school diploma to become successful in game design. Actually there are those who have become highly successful with zero diploma or GED but just used highly creative skills to produce desirable products with natural talent and hard work.

I planned to have androids in my game and aliens and such. Like alien lifeforms which or not human so it honestly shouldn’t matter what something in a game is referred as. Like using the words “nuke” for a more powerful “in game” weapon especially “mini nukes” or calling an alien creature “he” or “him” shouldn’t be an issue especially considering I have plans for the development of alien races which will be either male or female or maybe even in between of neither male or female in which case I should be able to refer to my own creations as anything I want without the fear of getting my game banned long as I’m not actually being racist or rude towards another culture.

I mainly wanted to know if Unreal will really ban a game/account for using the word “nuke” or for not referring to an alien lifeform as “it” rather then him for an alien male. I think you’re supposed to also refer to animals as “it” instead of “boy” for let’s say a male pet dog inside a game calling it “boy” instead of it can get your game’s account banned from the way I understand it according to a youtube reviewer who went over some of Unreal’s Censorship Restrictions.

Is it really against Unreal’s policy to use the word “nuke” inside our games? Are they really this restrictive with words? I mean the word “nuke” really shouldn’t offend anyone and other games built outside of Unreal uses the word “nuke” in their games without consequence.

I’m not completely sure if that particular set of coding standards actually applies to us, though. Because there’s been an bit of an push to change the jargon around an lot of stuff to be less offensive for one reason or another. As far as I can make it out, these are all just suggestions that are being spread around by the tech industry. But it wouldn’t hurt to file an ticket with Epic for some clarification about this, since some of the greatest pieces of entertainment actually revolves around genocides or WMDs.
