UE 5.8.2 GitHub release source vs Launcher CL 56702186 — provenance clarification

Hello Unreal Engine community,

I’m preparing an isolated source build of Unreal Engine 5.8.2 and would appreciate clarification about the relationship between the official GitHub release and the Epic Games Launcher version.

The official 5.8.2-release tag points to commit:
16d75d84714512edfb744e1fd0a59e9c74d57873

The Build.version file at this commit reports:

  • Version: 5.8.2
  • Changelist: 0
  • CompatibleChangelist: 55116800
  • BranchName: UE5

My installed Launcher UE 5.8.2 reports:

  • Changelist: 56702186
  • CompatibleChangelist: 55116800
  • BranchName: ++UE5+Release-5.8

Could anyone from Epic Games, or someone familiar with the release process, clarify:

  1. Is this exact GitHub commit associated with Launcher CL 56702186?

  2. Are these Build.version differences expected for public GitHub source releases?

  3. Is there an official release manifest or another way to verify the correspondence?

  4. If exact equivalence cannot be established, are there any technical considerations when using this tagged release as an independent source-build baseline?

I’m not assuming binary or dependency equivalence based on the matching version number.

Thank you!
