UE 5.7 Build process is messed up

Hey,

we have a large and long running project. We moved it from 5.6 to 5.7.1 (source build) for a test and have some performance benefits. However we noticed the build process via Project Launcher is somewhat broken.

  1. Iterative Cooking is no longer working. We do a small change in one Blueprint and have to cook all files again which takes ~2h while the same cook in 5.6 due to correctly workin itterative cooking did take ~5 minutes.

That said we have ZEN Server disabled as it caused corrupted files.

  2. The Cook process is picking up ALL files in Content folder. We have clear defined chunk rooles, folder setup tro be included and other to be excluded. For example in an excluded folder, we have unused experimental animations. Some of them do not have a skeleton anymore. And still those files are getting cocked, we get an Error Unable to retrieve target USkeleton for Animation Asset and the cook failes.

I have the same project open in 5.6 and it does cook and package like it should without this messed up build process. Either the configuration is entirly different for cooking or it’s simply broken.

Anyone with the same experience?

I have a similar question to your first one, https://forums.unrealengine.com/t/ue5-7-1-projectlauncher-packaging-error-when-build-pak-file/2693661/3. and yet no answer has satisfied me.

You can try it to use the old project launcher, good luck.

I tried the old Project Launcher, this did not change anything.
I’m currently buildinmg with those addiional parameters: -iterative -legacyiterative

It’s currently loooking promising but it’s probnably some hours away from completing the build.

Still no solution.

Same build settings, same configs and the final completed build is now 70GB instead of 12 GB. Updated to 5.7.2 in the meantime, it’s still messed up.
