UE 5.5.3 Crash on start up (GPU Crashed or D3D Device Removed)

I apologize if this post is listed under the wrong category
I’m new to UE and have been unable to open UE 5.5.3 let alone any previous versions of UE ever since I installed it two months ago on my Laptop (specs bellow). When launching UE 5.5.3 from both the Epic games launcher or the installed shortcut the engine loads and then immediately crashes, thus I am unable to open or create any projects. The pop up specifies “GPU Crashed or D3D Device Removed” and when opening the crash reporter I am presented with this:

GPU Crash dump Triggered

UnrealEditor_D3D12RHI
UnrealEditor_D3D12RHI
UnrealEditor_D3D12RHI
UnrealEditor_Core
UnrealEditor_Core
kernel32
ntdll

Solutions that I have tried but failed:

  • Uninstalling and reinstalling Epic Games launcher and UE 5.5.3
  • Verifying Unreal Engine Files
  • Installing older/stable version of UE (including UE4)
  • Increasing TdrDelay and TdrDdiDelay
  • Updating Nvidia Studio drivers
  • Rolling back Nvidia Studio Drivers
  • Specifying UE to use GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU
  • Setting GPU to max performance through Nvidia Control panel
  • Disabling GPU Hardware Scheduling
  • Running UE 5.5.3 in Dx11 Mode
  • Insuring Dx12 is installed (Direct X Diagnostic Tool)
  • Utilizing sfc scannow to scan and repair system files.

My Specs are:
HP Victus Gaming Laptop

  • Processor: 13th Gen Intel(R) Core™ i7-13700HX 2.10 GHz
  • RAM: 32GB
  • 64-bit os, Windows 11 Home
  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop gpu
  • DirectX runtime version 12.0

I’ve exhausted everything I could find with no luck. Any help is mush appreciated.

!UPDATE! (STILL NOT SOLVED): Took a look in the Unreal.log crash report file (should have done this in the first place) and noticed that the application failed to load ‘aqProf.dll’, ‘VtunAPi.dll’, and ‘VtuneApi32e.dll’. Was able to install aqProf.dll and ‘VtuneApi.dll’ off of dll-files.com but I was not able to find VtuneApi32e.dll. I moved these files into System32. Regardless I tired launching UE again to see if the new log would include failing to load aqProf.dll and VtuneApi.dll and it did, meaning there was no changes from before and after downloading the dll files :(.

For reference:
LogWindows: Failed to load ‘aqProf.dll’ (GetLastError=193)

LogWindows: File ‘aqProf.dll’ does not exist

LogWindows: Failed to load ‘VtuneApi.dll’ (GetLastError=193)

LogWindows: File ‘VtuneApi.dll’ does not exist

LogWindows: Failed to load ‘VtuneApi32e.dll’ (GetLastError=126)

LogWindows: File ‘VtuneApi32e.dll’ does not exist

LogWindows: Started CrashReportClient (pid=3256)

I looked across the UE forums for possible solutions to the problem, but most either have to do with solutions regarding a particular project (which I am unable to create at all), have gone completely silent with no solutions (most), or the OP found a solution but provided very little explanation as to how to implement this solution.

The only other possible solution I can think of is running a clean Windows 11 install and trying UE, but going through the process seems way to tedious and I have a feeling that it would not work regardless (can only be explained as a gut feeling).

This experience has beaten me to the ground and I haven’t even started using the engine yet… Honestly might go back to Unity.

UPDATE: (SOLUTION FOUND!)

After literal months of trying to solve this issue I found the solution to be one setting in the Omen Gaming Hub application.

Solution:

  • Open “Omen Gaming Hub”
  • On the Left hand side under your device, click “Graphics Switcher”
  • Change GPU mode from “Hybrid” to “Discrete”
  • Restart your device (You will be prompted to do so by the Hub)

Found this solution by stumbling across a Steam Forum post where OP had similar GPU crash issues with their HP Victus Gaming Laptop. It appears a windows update forced Omen systems to run applications on iGPU, causing, in my case, UE to crash on start up. Seems (from forum) that this is only a temp fix. I highly suggest reading into the forum as the discussion provides good insight into the root cause of the problem.

For now I will be switching between Hybrid and Discrete mode depending on if I am or am not using UE.
