UE 5.5.1 does not start - Unhandled Exception: EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION

I’ve been working on this project for a long time. I recently changed some buttons in the widgets and when I restart it, it does not open and an error message comes up.

I only changed a few settings in the button blueprint

Not much to go on with that error. Perhaps installing debug symbols could show a more detailed error report.

You could try updating / changing your graphics drivers.
Are you using rivatuner or msi afterburner. If so try turning them off and running the project again.

Also make sure that you don’t have two instances of the engine running at the same time (a crash report also counts as an instance)

Did anything change in your pc between the save and crash? A windows update / driver update added an antivirus?

I only changed a few settings in the button blueprint. Other than that I haven’t changed anything in the system.

You can try moving the effected widget uasset out of the project and remaking it if it is not too complex.

Maybe the asset was corrupted in some way and is now crashing the project.

When I get an error in Unreal, I normally open the project with the next lower editor. It makes a copy. If the error persists, then that would indicate an error with the project itself and not the editor… so I believe.

@Immersive-Games You cannot downgrade projects to older versions of the editor.

@SerkanAyhan1973 I would also suggest verifying you engine from the Epic Launcher to make sure nothing went wrong with the engine files themselves.

Thank you for your answers. I will continue to work with my backups. I think the button blueprint is corrupted somehow. When I change button color, I can’t start the UE anymore. Otherwise everything runs normally

Updating bios solved same issue for me

I should have added, Using an existing older version and its editor.

I rarely use any of the 5 series Editors, I always create in 4.27 than simply open a copy in higher editors, then submit those zipped versions for approval.

For my money, there are far too many Experimental and beta plug-ins enabled by default, that I will never use. Unchecking them for one project is not sticky at all. I have to repetitively do that task to the point of boredom.
