UE 5.3 Compositing Characters using Media Planes with Substrate enabled

Would anyone happen to know what is the UE 5.3 workflow for compositing characters using a media plate actor with the new substrate node system? Not doing the composure method with this one.

The environment here is the Electric Dreams environment. The image sequence files themselves are EXR. The media plate itself becomes super dark as well. Any ideas or aware of the best workflow?

How the media plate appears in the environment as ultra dark.

Attached is the method I was using before substrate

This is what it appears as now.

Any help is much appreciated legends!

Did you find an answer about this?

@ArtsyMoods I did!

Step 1 - duplicate the M_Media Plate, and rename it M_Media_Masked. Open up that material.

Step 2 - Delete everything - except keep the Mediatexture node. and material node M_Material Masked.

Step 3 - Now you’ll want to right click and find ‘Substrate UE4 Default Shader’ and place it/

Step 4 - Connect the Media texture RGB to the base color and the ‘A’ (alpha) to the Opacity.

Step 5 - Connect the ‘Substrate UE4 Default Shader’ Result to the ‘Front Material’ of the M_Media Masked.

Step 6 - Change the blend mode (while clicking the M_Media Masked) to Alpha Composite.

Then you’re done! Stress over (hopefully lol).
