There’s one tiny little sentence buried in the release notes for 5.3 about this and almost nothing listed in the docs; apparently, going forward, new animations imported into UE5.3 and on will default to using the ACL animation compression algorithm (formerly a free marketplace plugin) as the default. However, older animations (imported prior to 5.3) will keep their prior compression algorithms.
I’m wondering if there’s anyone with a solid grasp of how to get this set of existing, already-imported animations recompressed with ACL instead? I’m having a hard time getting ACL recognized in the DefaultBoneCompression settings (testing shows it’s applied to 0 animations after running compression). I’d ask on the plugin’s marketplace page but the marketplace plugin is abandoned due to the ACL’s integration with UE proper so I’m not sure where to ask but the forums.
