Hello, I just upgraded to UE 5.2 after using 5.1. I started working on a 2D project in 5.1, but I’ve only done a couple hours’ worth of work on it before upgrading to 5.2 which meant recompiling/rebuilding the project. However since I switched to 5.2 the editor is kind of unpleasant to use due to mouse stutter/lag, usually when a dropdown list should appear (like right clicking, changing variable type etc) but also when just navigating folders and sometimes when typing something into a node textbox.
I haven’t tried this yet on other projects as recompiling would take time, and since this is my first time working on a 2D game I dunno if that could be the cause since I do have a 100x50 tilemap in the level, but I’d say that shouldn’t be the problem since nothing like this happened in more complex 3D scenes.
The editor also crashed once after 3 hours because it ran out of RAM of which I have 32GB : /. I’ve also had several crashes right after exiting PIE. Is this version just not very stable/badly optimized or is it just my problem?
I’m having the same issue, downloaded UE5 5.2.1 and tried the Hillside Sample and it ran kinda fine and realized. When I bring up MOST drop down menus like File, Edit, Window and right clicking on anything drops my performance to 0 like there are half a second long stutters. BUT this does not happen when you pull down the Build menu for some reason.
There is a way to stop this, but you need to NOT maximize the unreal editor. Instead just drag the editor window to one side of your desktop and it will pop up filling half of your desktop, now just stretch the UE editor all the way to the other side and its pretty much filling like it would when you full screen it. I’m trying this right now and it does “fix” it for me.
I don’t know much else since I’ve only ever used Unreal for like the past 3 hours trying to figure out this issue, some people have had it last year, but those solutions that they found didn’t fix my problem. At least it’s still usable by using it this way.
BTW my PC has the same amount of ram as you 32gb 6000mhz with a 7900xt paired with a 7700x, I haven’t crashed yet but I’ve yet to use it for 3 hours straight. It is a new build about 3 days old and have downloaded all drivers for my CPU and GPU.
Great, I’m not the only one! (or not great, but you get me : )) Those issues you described are exactly like mine, and I also haven’t found anything related (only some 8 year old post for UE4 and one for ue 5.0.3). Will definitely try your fix, hope it works
@Wyrmheroman your fix unfortunately doesn’t work for me. It might have lessened the issue a bit, but I might have also gotten used to the lag so I can’t really tell.
Oh and BTW, the engine crashed around 10 times over the course of 3 hours. Most of the crashes occured when I didn’t click save on a material, just apply, and wanted to take a look at my UI which uses the material I’m really thinking of going back to 5.1
Edit: Seems like I was stretching the window a bit too much, as when I leave a couple millimeters of each edge free the stutter/freezes are gone! Thanks!
