UE [4.27.2] gets stuck compiling shaders, when opening 4.22.2 project.

Hi. I’m using Unreal Engine 4.27.2, and I want to open project I downloaded from the internet and that project was made on 4.22.2 version of UE4. Any setting I choose (skip conversion/convert in place), when the loading screen starts, it gets stuck at 45%, while screen is saying: "Compiling Shaders (1 094)… I have been waiting for almost 2 hours and nothing happens.

Hey, @DuckJohnn!

Do you by chance have an onboard graphics card to speak of, besides your integrated chip set? 8GB RAM is going to move very slowly here, without dedicated video RAM, unfortunately.

ALSO, converting between 4.22 and 4.27 is going to vary WILDLY in terms of success, that’s a large jump. You may want to download 4.22 and make sure it works in 4.22, to make sure it IS the conversion process!

AMD Radeon ™ Vega 8 Grapchics (1920x1080 60fps, 6bit, RGB, SDR). I’m using a laptop for now…

I “downgraded” to/downloaded UE 4.22.3, and I tried to open that 4.22.2 project (I downloaded from internet) again and I’ve been waiting for 5 hours now, and it still stays at 45%.

I have no problem to open my older larger projects from older device (those were made with UE 4.27.0 and I now I opened those with UE 4.27.2).

Hey again @DuckJohnn! Sorry for the late response!

Unfortunately what it sounds like to me is one of the files was corrupted when exported by the original creator. :frowning: If you have the option, you can try it on another computer. But downloading 4.22 and trying it on that… somewhat (?) confirms that is the issue. However:

Minimum Specs for Unreal Engine 4 are barely being met by your system, and that’s debatable. That alone could be the issue… grabbing a copy of a project I was working on fresh from repository typically meant compiling shaders for upwards of an hour… on a Quadro P5000 (8GB dedicated VRAM) and 16GB RAM.
