UE 4.25.1 Crash with Explorer

Hi there, I’ve been getting consistent crashes with UE 4.25 over this last week which has been driving me nuts.

The crash occurs when an explorer window is called from within UE - for instance, clicking the Import button, trying to reimport a file or using a third-party plugin such as UAsset Browser. As soon as the explorer window opens, UE crashes.
For reference, this happens in any project, old or new. But not if I use 4.24.

Things I’ve tried (which haven’t worked):

  • Removing all plugins
  • Reinstalling UE 4.25 and clearing the cache
  • Running as admin + running with Troubleshoot compatibility.
  • Removing various Shell plugins/items (a comment on another similar thread talked of doing this), I removed Platic SCM and 7 Zip.
  • Reinstalling windows .NET framework to latest one (4.8) - again from another forum thread.
  • Running a windows system checker with DISM.exe from the command prompt.
  • Turning the machine on and off again.

Please help :frowning:

UPDATE! I seem to have 4.25.1 working again. For anyone that may encounter a similar issue…

The last 2 things I did were update Plastic SCM to the latest version and enable USD importer in the project plugins, despite not having any USD files in the project (to my knowledge).

Perhaps this is a bug with the USD importer?

I’m having the same issue. In another post, people are complaining about this happening when you have Perforce installed.

Looking at the callstack (even without symbols) this seems like a crash in Windows itself.

It might be related to a Windows update.

I have been trying to reproducing it, since I am the author of the Plastic SCM plugin, but I didn’t succeed.

Cheers,
Sébastien

I had same issue - thanks to Lucas for suggesting Perforce as culprit. Upgraded our client versions of P4V and that seems to have cleared it up. Which is weird - but its working, so hey. . . .

mmmmmh @ Sébastien
you right i just updated windows 10
and i have this issue from now.

Best Regards,
Daniel

strange behavior,

if i click import it working if i hide the left navigation toolbar
i seem to crash when i see the quick menu acess

Work around that worked for me is drag and drop from windows to unreal instead of using the unreal import menu. I read somewhere it’s a known bug and set to be fixed in 4.25.2
