Hi,
I just installed 4.17 on MBP late 2013 with NVidia 750m
Model Name: MacBook Pro
Model Identifier: MacBookPro11,3
Processor Name: Intel Core i7
Processor Speed: 2.3 GHz
Number of Processors: 1
Total Number of Cores: 4
When I am trying to launch 4.17.0 via the launch button:
I see UE editor Logo in dock for less than a second
and then it disappears, and editor is never launched :(.
I tried to uncomment ;r.Shaders.Optimize=0 line in ConsoleVariables.ini file
but same behavior (I reinstalled 3 times and also counlessly verified the engine installation tried several restarts).
UE 4.16.3 works fine.
Edit:
After trying to launch the editor.exe from terminal I got some assertion output
I hope it will shed some light right now
/Users/Shared/EpicGames/UE_4.17/Engine/Binaries/Mac/UE4Editor.app/Contents/MacOS/UE4Editor
Assertion failed:
FPaths::DirectoryExists(RealShaderDirectory)
[File:/Users/build/Build/++UE4+Release-4.17+Compile/Sync/Engine/Source/Runtime/Core/Private/GenericPlatform/GenericPlatformProcess.cpp]
[Line: 172]
After verifying the UE4 installation the folders are exists,
but once i am trying to launch them from the launcher
they disappear
Edit 2:
Double clicking UPROJECT file also leads to a deleted shaders.
Conclusion:
The Launcher.app deletes the shader folder on launch!
the only way to use 4.17.x / 4.18.x is to launch them directly from finder.
I have to say that this is pathetic…
And please fix this!!!
4.17.1 and 4.17.2 and also 4.18 preview1 - all are broken…
I just see a SplashScreen for less than a second and it crashes - then I can see that the crash reporter also crashes under same circumstances - reinstalled and stuff trillion times.
You guys just should stop advertising that UE4 is supports Macs - it is clearly not.
Every release something gets worse and worse - and also 0 help on this site.
Despite it is pointless… but still maybe some one out there ?
Hi ,
I tried to reproduce this on a MacBook Pro that has very similar specifications to what you showed above. Unfortunately the 4.17 Editor would launch successfully for me when I clicked the Launch button in the Launcher. When you mention that the Shaders folder is being deleted, are you referring to the folder at UE_4.17/Engine/Shaders
? I watched that folder when launching the Editor, and it did not appear to be getting deleted in my case.
Hey thanks for checking,
I just want to tell that I am not the only one with this exact problem,
if you can check other users reported the same problem.
(The only thing I noticed I think they had the exact same hardware).
Yes I mean the Engine/Shaders
Launcher just deletes it :-(.
Hey ,
I thought… that… if it could be of any help,
maybe we can arrange a remote access session ?
Roma.
I can only comfirm that full format with fresh installation of High Sierra now works fine with 4.18.1
However packaged game doesn’t start - it hangs the cpu at 100% and doesn’t show any windows.
And the same story in stand alone game…
Hi ,
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Are you still having trouble with packaged games not launching successfully on a Mac? Do you see this with all projects, or only with your own project?
Hey ,
No I didn’t solve this.
Packaged/Standalone game is launched but all I can see is a black screen.
And nothing happens.
It seems like the template projects are packaged fine and working.
(does it happens because my game was originally created in 4.14 ? or because my project is massively c++ - I dont know, all I know that the very same thing is working on 4.16.
Also 4.18 had no troubles in Windows.
I wasted too much time trying to fix it… and I dont have more time to waste on this.
Do I decided to stay with 4.16.
If it may help I can send my project (privately) it is in 4.16.
Can do it tomorrow, if you can link your Forums profile I will send a google drive link as a private message.
Thanks. I will run some more tests with packaged and standalone games on our Mac and see if I can reproduce this issue. I’ll try creating a project in 4.14 and upgrading it to 4.18 to see if that gives me the results that you are seeing. I don’t expect that your project having a lot of C++ would cause this to happen.
That may help quite a bit. You can send me a PM on the forums with a link to download your project.
