UE 4.12.5 crashes when I try to open a map

Hi,

My UE4 editor crashed as I was placing rock assets on the scene and now, every time I try to open that level the editor crashes. I spent hours working on this map and I would like to know if there is any way to somehow “delete” the last few assets I placed or somehow recover the map.

I’m including my crash log. Please help!

Thanks,

-J

Hi CoquiGames,

  • Does this occur in a clean, blank project with no additional content or is it limited to one project?
  • What steps can I take to reproduce this on my end?
  • Is this limited to one asset?
  • Can you post your full crash logs? The link provided is the crash callstack. The logs can be found at \Unreal Projects\PROJECTNAME\saved\logs.

Hi CoquiGames,

After some additional research, I’ve found that this is a known issue here. I’m happy to report that this has already been fixed and should be in 4.13.

Hi ,

Thank you for the quick response! I’m glad to hear this is getting fixed in 4.13. In the meantime, do you know of any way to recover the map? This happened with a specific rock mesh from a pack I bought in the marketplace.

Do we have the ability to remove specific meshes from the map from outside the editor?

If not, I guess I’ll have to start over - just hoping there is something I can do to salvage all the work

Thanks!

If you are using p4 or another FTP service, you should be able to recover a previous build of your map. Another option would be to remove the foliage that has caused the error from your content browser, at which point you should be able to open the map. Finally, if you check your saved\backup folder you should be able to get a previous map version if one is saved within.

Thank you for your help !
