Hello,
today i started with Unreal Engine 4.
Before i ever used UDK to train myself in front of building Landscapes and Maps.
After a time i where rdy to start with the Unreal Engine.
But now i am shocked a bit.
Is it true that there is no easy way to import all my work from UDK to UE4?
I made a lot of good Maps due i where thinking that i can use them with UE4.
And now i noticed that UE4 wants that i make it again within UE Software.
But realy, the UE Design Tools are sad (in my mind), UDK is much much better and not as laggy as UE4.
Even the handling of UDK is much better then within the payd UE4 Software…
Now i feel rly sad and thinking " why the heck is the payd software not as good as the free one?! ".
And yes, i know that UE4 have tons of special things that UDK cant do, but i am just speaking about the Design Tools.
How ever…, my main Questions are:
Why i cant simply use/import my UDK Maps to UE4 Software?
Why the Quality of the Game is as **** inside UE4 and as hell good inside UDK? (UDK Game is much more Lagfree and the Graphics are much better then inside UE4)
Where do i find all the good Basics within the Content Browser of UE4 that where inside the Content Browser of UDK?
Sorry for my broken english, it’s not my favorite Language
There’s a tool that can help you move your assets to UE4 from UDK, do a search in the Community tools section of the forum.
The engines are significantly different enough that the files are not compatible, which is why UDK files don’t work. There’s entirely different systems going on in UE4.
If you’re having performance issues, then there’s some tweaks that you can do to help, most likely your hardware isn’t all that powerful. Part of the reason for UE4 is to move games forward graphics wise so old hardware isn’t going to work as well. As far as quality goes, UE4 has better graphical features, if things don’t look as good to you than UDK then either your graphics settings are turned down or the assets you’ve created aren’t set up correctly.
Because the UE4 dont use upk anymore -> now all assets are saved as one file and not as a package
graphic always depends on the textures, materials and meshes -> so you can reach the same graphic with the UE4 when you have a little bit more experience (take a look at the effects demo)
you can download many samples from the marketplace
Hmmm… thats sad, UDK is a powerful and smart tool, much more easy to use then ue4.
i get issues on basic things that where totaly easy within UDK. (like using the Terrain Tool to paint the Rocks in different Colors and so on)
Well…, as i now know the fact of “UDK not working with UE4” i need to think about many things…
@
does it make sense to use the tool to transfer udk maps to ue4 if the engines are as different?
thanks for the links, i will take a look at it.
at the moment it’s a bunch of new things to learn.
it where a mistake to work 3 month with UDK to learn things…
Normally it is even an advantage when you used udk for 3 month -> it should be easier for you to start with the UE4, because many things works the same:
Hm yes, i noticed some simular things.
But the Interface of UE4 is kinda different.
Simple Steps as using Basic Contents like Teleporter or Vehicels are currently one of many things i cant find inside UE4.
Even the Terrain Tool is kinda different to the UDK one!
Ill have to go through many UE4 YT Vids, may that will clear my confusion
And thanks for the Austrian Dev. Link, ill made my post
The tool only moves assets, which aren’t terribly difficult to move over anyways, things like gameplay code are completely incompatible. The file structure is different and they would have to adjust the UDK file format to be able to make it work with UE4.
Hmmm, but the UT Stuff where cool and nice
That where one Reason why i started the UE4 Abo, tons of cool Soundfiles and lot of Basic things that help to start with.
But well, then i will have to start now with the hard fact of an “white paper”
Thanks for the YT Link, good Tutorial, seems to be a good Tutorial for my Main Issue in front of Landscape Design.
Now i take a short “Downtime” for my Body (Sleep) and then i will continue testing all Parts of UE4
EDIT:
First Crash with UE4, never had a Crash with UDK haha
But i made “New Level”, then it crashed hardly ^^
thanks and ofc, i think i will need to ask inside here from time to time to give yours a “facepalm” reason haha
but else i am also using my brain and dr. google or youtube to get through ue4.
