I have installed and tried to run three different Unreal-based games on my computer, all of which have same problem (namely Strike Vector, Hawken, and Antichamber; computer is less than a year old, runs Windows 8, all games purchased and downloaded through Valve’s Steam service). When I launch game, it gets as far as opening game window and playing about a quarter-second of sound (indicating “Made with Unreal” video clip is attempting to play). At this point game window collapses and program fails to proceed; no visuals of any kind are ever seen. Attempting to re-open game window causes issue to repeat itself. This only happens in fullscreen mode; playing in windowed mode causes no problems.
For security reasons, I do all my computer activity on a limited-user account rather than default administrative account (which I have password protected). On admin account, these games run fine in fullscreen mode, but on limited account I keep running into this bug. Going into games’ settings through Windows and granting “Run as admin” privileges has gotten around problem, but is only a temporary fix; games do not seem to retain these privileges after closing down.
I have never had this problem with any other game engine, and it seems to be main aspect these games have in common. I’m not a developer, so I don’t have knowledge base to be much more specific than this, but I think there’s enough information here that respondents can reproduce issue and examine it more closely. Hopefully someone here will have a better idea of what’s going on and how to fix it permanently. Thank you for your time.
