Hello
I wanted to start using the EU, but couldn’t decide which license option to choose. On the one hand, I cannot use it for things other than games (or maybe I would experiment), and on the other hand, I would like to publish these content and games.
I accept the terms of all licenses (Publishing and Creator). Does this mean that I can do certain things under these two licenses? Is there only one for me?
Thank you in advance for your answer
In an essence:
- If you make a game an sell it in any way, you will have to pay a 5% royalty after you hit the $1.000.000 revenue mark.
- If you make a game an release it for free, then no need for paying roaylties
- If you make an Hollywood movie, Netflix-series or whatever with UE renders, and earn billions of dollars, you don’t have to pay any royalties.
You can always start making stuff, and as soon as you plan on releasing it, either contact Epic or post here or on the forum for a more specific answer on that particular project
Hope it helps!
Good luck with your projects!
Hello. Can I use the EU commercially at will and there are royalties for games according to your message?
Yes, you can use it commercially however you want. You only have to be concerned about royalties if you release a game with a price higher than $0.
So if you just make a cool video and release on YouTube, or sell that video on a DVD, or release a game for free, then that’s fine and you don’t have to think of the royalties.
If that makes sense. The FAQ posted above is quite clear
I think one license applies if you release something, such as a packaged game.
The other applies if you use UE for creating videos etc. So only renders and not a package game.
Anyhow, none of the licenses prevents you from testing, learning, prototyping, pitching or in any way starting your projects. And as soon as you feel like it’s time to release something, then you can check here again or contact epic.
Yes I know. I have some limitations in only one license, I couldn’t make up my mind, so I accepted two And here’s all the confusion
