While Twinmotion’s new collaboration with Autodesk is heralded as great news I have some concerns as to how this may impact Non-Autodesk users of Twinmotion.
Autodesk products are great if you have a firm that can afford to pay their continual expensive subscription rates but for us sole practitioners and artists the cost of Autodesk subscriptions are beyond budget and unaffordable period .
When Twinmotion was introduced in 2019 it was promoted as free to initial users and was stated to be “very affordable” when it was officially released.
Hopefully the new collaboration with Autodesk will not cause Twinmotion to become unaffordable for us little guys.
Any updated announcements, planned direction, and costs for the official release of Twinmotion would be helpful as this information is not available in the roadmap.
I honestly have similar concerns. AutoDesk is a Kraken having acquired a lot of independent software and often ruined them by "integrating" and adding a subscription paywall. See Lightscape, 3D Studio Max, Maya, T-Splines and many more. I understand that AutoDesk software is widely used and therefore a better interface between TM and their products is a smart thing to do. None the less my alarm belss are ringing.
Our goal is to build better collaboration between Autodesk products. This won't affect our wider community. We will continue to support all creators with Twinmotion.
We are not implementing any immediate changes to our business model.
Additionally, there is not any acquisition process happening, it is a mutual collaboration to improve the visualization tools in the AEC market.
