Twinmotion 2025.2 and Archicad 28 datasmith crash

Hey everyone, I’m running into a really frustrating issue with Twinmotion 2025.2 and Archicad 28 using the latest Datasmith plugin.

My workflow is simple: I export a Datasmith file from Archicad and import it into Twinmotion. The first import works perfectly.

The problem happens when I close the Twinmotion file and come back to it later. If I’ve made changes in Archicad and try to update/reimport the Datasmith file, Twinmotion crashes immediately.

The only workaround I’ve found is to delete the Archicad Datasmith import in Twinmotion and re-import it from scratch, but that means reapplying all materials and textures, which is extremely time-consuming and frustrating.

Has anyone else run into this? Is there a trick or workflow to update a Datasmith file without losing everything?

Hello @acspace-3d, Hope you’re doing well!

Thank you for brining this up. We have tried to reproduce this in the next release of Twinmotion 2026.1 as well as with its compatible Datasmith exporter for ArchiCAD and was not able to reproduce the crash.

If you can reproduce the crash, could you also send us your Log files from after the crash. That would be helpful for our team to determine the root cause and if the new version of Twinmotion and Datasmith have unintentionally resolved the crash or not. Typically, you can find these logs here: [C:\Users\User\AppData\Local\Twinmotion\Saved\Logs]

Cheers,
Joey
